Betty Joyce Chilcutt, 91, of Whitesboro, Texas was called home to her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 24, 2024, where she was welcomed by Jesus and her husband Wayman, son Windle and a host of family and friends who greeted her at the gates of heaven.
Betty was born on April 16, 1933 in Wilbarger County, Texas to Leonard Burl and Irma Elizabeth (Eure) Hoke. She met the love of her life while attending college at the University of North Texas. She went on a blind date, and it was love at first sight. Six months later she married Wayman Chilcutt in Vernon, Texas on March 25, 1951 and they had 64 years together prior to his passing in 2015.
Betty was a member of First United Methodist Church in Whitesboro. She was a loving wife and mother to her family even during the tragic death of her son Windle in 1973.
She worked as a florist assistant and at an insurance company in Whitesboro. She retired from Whitesboro ISD where she worked for many years as a teaching assistant.
She and Wayman were a very strong couple and she supported him behind the scenes throughout his career. Betty enjoyed cooking and working with her flower gardens. She cherished the role of wife, mother and grandmother and loved caring for her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Mesker of Whitewright; daughter, Pam Burden Reed and husband, Paul of Conway, Arkansas; grandchildren David Eldredge and wife, JJ, Susan Barrett and husband, Jeremiah, John Burden and wife, Katie; great-grandchildren, Cole Eldredge, Regan Eldredge, Juno Burden, Jules Barrett and Beatrix Barrett; great-great-grandchildren, Jace Eldredge, Gatsby Eldredge and Harvey Eldredge; sister, Sandy Hammer and husband, Nolan; sister-in-law, Venita Lindsey; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wayman Chilcutt; son, Windle Chilcutt; parents, Leonard and Irma Hoke; and in-laws, Bill and Pauline Chilcutt. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her honor to the First United Church Building Fund or to the charity of your choice.
Pallbearers will be Barry Keller, Kyle Maynard, John Smith, Rick Acker, Layne Lewter and Ronnie Fielder. Honorary pallbearer will be Bud Smith.
Funeral services honoring Betty were held at 10:00 AM on Friday, July 26, 2024 at First United Methodist Church in Whitesboro, officiated by Rev. Dana Coker. Interment followed at Oakwood Cemetery in Whitesboro. A time of visitation for family and friends was held on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at Meador Funeral Home of Whitesboro from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
