Larry Andrew Jones
Larry Andrew Jones passed away April 22, 2024 at Beacon Hill in Denison after a prolonged illness. He was formerly the minister at Gordonville Church of Christ.
Jones was born Jan. 2, 1958 in Ardmore, Oklahoma. He was orphaned at a young age and was raised in Ardmore by his grandmother. Jones was trained as a minister at the Brown Trail School of Preaching where he graduated in 2005. He was a member at the McLish Church of Christ in Ardmore before moving to North Texas.
Larry preached at churches in Ardmore and Lamar County, Texas before being called to preach at Gordonville. He served there for almost a decade prior to the COVID-19 pandemic that caused his furlough.
Larry was a simple man and left very little behind, much like Christ himself. He was previously married and widowed. Larry leaves no survivors.
He dedicated his life to preaching the word and was a minimalist by nature. He enjoyed science fiction movies and pinball. Larry also worked odd jobs to support his ministry.
After his time as minister ended at Gordonville, he was employed at Poor Boy 377 Cafe when the restaurant was in Collinsville.
Larry was also a long-time contributor to the Whitesboro News-Record.
A memorial service and fellowship luncheon were held in Larry’s honor Sunday, May 5 at
Gordonville Church of Christ.
Cremation arrangements are pending with Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman.
