Elton Paul Seaux, Jr.

Elton Paul Seaux, Jr.

Elton Paul Seaux, Jr.

It’s often asked, “is he a lover or a fighter?” For those of us who were lucky enough to have crossed paths with Elton, we would answer, both.
If there was a room full of people who knew him at any time in his life, and they were asked to raise their hand if 1. Elton had kicked their tail, or 2. He would have kicked anyone’s tail for them, all hands would be raised.
He was brought into this world for many reasons. For each of us, it’s different, and for some, you may still not fully understand what that reason may be.
Elton fathered many children, some of whom may read this. Each of you should know that he never forgot you, he spoke of you, and he loved you.
What he didn’t do was find a proper way to be a part of your life. And if you asked him what happened, he would say, “there is my side, their side, and the truth,” and he’d leave it at that.
Please forgive him and carry on in your lives. Become the best version of you, do not let his past be your future.
From the outside, you may have seen a large -framed man who never settled down and kept people at a distance. From this distance, Elton’s life didn’t seem easy and we know that some of that was self-inflicted.
But if your heart was tied to Elton’s, as many were, you did not forget him. If we took a step back, fished a little longer, we may have found his distance was hiding his pain.
Elton achieved a few greats here and there: an Arizona State Wrestling Championship, he traveled with the USA Wrestling Team to Germany and pinned their undefeated regional champion, he lost part of a finger working with the Mt. Lemon Fire Department, which led to a lifetime of joking around at his expense and from him directly.
To say Elton had potential was and always will be an understatement. All the would haves, could haves, and should haves, applied to him.
We may never know if he had any life regrets, although we can speculate he did when it came to his children and lack of longevity. No matter the wake any of us leave here on Earth, we are all deserving of peace, and that is what he found on the water, near the water, or if necessary, in the water, to catch a fish.
We know that Elton thrived on any body of water. He could take into consideration the moon, the weather, and the water to tell you exactly what to use to catch a fish. A true fisherman at heart. He practiced catch and release and passed along everything he knew about fishing to anyone who would pick up a rod and meet him at the pond, whether the day’s work was done or not. If you sit back and think about it, he practiced catch & release in life, too.
When his family was presented with the opportunity to describe Elton in two words, they replied with these words of endearment: reckless, but caring, predictably unpredictable, hilariously hardheaded, a controversial kindred spirit, opinionated, stubborn, a loud talker, one of his brothers called him handy, the other rebutted with “hack.”
They say he was always on “Elton Time,” that he was physically strong, profane, intense, shady, untrustworthy, a friend, kidder, and a --. They went on to say he was fickle and aggressive, yet witty. A nephew said “he taught me the ‘s’ word,” which explains his niece’s reply that the only words that came to mind were: “What the hell, Bobby?” and honestly, he has left all of us thinking the same thing at one time or another.
Another niece offered a phrase that represents one of many “Elton philosophies:” “Do as I say, not as I do.” Through his all-of-the-above methods of delivering his thoughts, this holds the most truth. Even through all the bantering and fast-talking Elton did, you somehow always walked away with sound advice or something new to make you think twice about judging his character.
After all, it’s not anyone’s place to take on the role of judgement. We will gladly let Jesus take that on now that Elton is home with Him.
Hebrews 4:15
“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weakness, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are–yet was without sin.”
If Elton had a headstone, it could never be grand enough to scribe all the words of love we have for him, but it may start out with something like this: Elton P. Seaux Jr. lies here, he left us while raising cane in the hospital, because he was just not a quiet man. This may look like dirt that covers him, but it’s not, it’s his family’s love, because no matter his past, we honor him.
The family is planning their own memorial at a future date.
