Pirates end playoff run
The Collinsville Pirates third straight State Quarterfinal appearance ended with a 54-14 loss to Muenster Friday night at Munson Stadium in Denison.
Brandon Cantu led the Pirate effort with nine carries for 47 yards and a touchdown.Landry Spivey had 87 yards and a score on eight catches.
Sophomore quarterback J.J. Jenkins went 29-of-49 passing for 270 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. Chad Davidson had four catches for 64 yards. Chase Sheppard ran 14 times for 41 yards. Jaxon Spivey had seven catches for 41 yards.
Collinsville’s first drive ended near midfield when Landon Hacker intercepted a screen pass and were limited on possessions throughout though they did produce more offensive plays than Muenster in the first half— 47-18.
Collinsville took an early lead after an initial 83-yard scoring drive that ended with a 42-yard Landry Spivey touchdown pass.
But Muenster had an answer.
After the initial score, the Pirates had six first-half possessions but only two entered Muenster territory.
Muenster advanced to 12-2 on the year.
They will face Gruver in the state semifinals.
Collinsville, likewise, finished the year at 12-2— their only two losses coming at the hands of Muenster.
Bearcats take Caddo Mills tourney
The Whitesboro Bearcat basketball team secured a first-place finish in the Caddo Mills Tournament over the weekend with a 44-38 win over Commerce in the championship game.
Max Hinsley led the attack with eight points, six rebounds, three assists and was named Tournament MVP.
Jacob Knight had eight points and five assists. He was named to the All-Tournament team.
Brayden Bomar scored 11 points. Jack Hinsley had nine points and seven rebounds. Dax Martin had six points for Whitesboro.
The Bearcats improved to 8-3 on the year and traveled to Sanger on Tuesday night. Results were not available as of press time.
The Bearcats beat North Lamar, 57-46, in the tournament semifinals.
Lady Cats get All-District honors
The Whitesboro Lady Cats were represented well recently when the all-district 10-3A volleyball team was selected by the district coaches.
Senior Izzy Gabber was named district Offensive Player of the Year.
First Team honors went to Madison Pokluda, Emma Parrish and Jenna Cole.
Second Team nominees are Landry Trammell and Cashtyn Wolf.
Senior Rylie Thomas received a Honorable Mention nod.
Academic All-District honors went to Gabbert, Pokluda, Jentry Patterson, Wolf, Landry Trammell, Teri Lyn Coello, Cole, Thomas, Parrish and La’Ney Powell.
Lady Rams make All-District teams
Several S&S Lady Rams recently received All-District for the 11-3A volleyball team.
Senior Lily Nunn was named First Team All-District.
Rylee Garrison was named Second Team.
Honorable Mention went to Brady Clark, Emily Bullard and Maleeya Stanford.
Academic All-District honors went to Clark, Lola Morrow, Hannah Foster, Garrison, Addy Russell, Maleeya Stanford, Nikki White, Maddalee Boyd, Emily Bullard, Starlyn Schnitker, Lana Walters, Karlie Baggs and Nunn.
C’ville, Tioga take All-District honors
The Collinsville Lady Pirates and Tioga Lady Bulldogs took some top honors on the recently announced All-District 10-2A volleyball team.
Collinsville sophomore Jaydee Matlock was named Most Valuable Player and teammate Reese Patterson was named Defensive Player of the Year.
First Team honors went to Collinsville’s Tessa Vannoy and Caelyn Scott and Tioga’s Kennedy Slay and Kaitlyn Garrison.
Second Team nods went to Collinsville’s Paige Davidson and Reece Elvington along with Tioga’s Kyndall Whitley and Ella Norwood.
Honorable Mention went to Collinsville’s Ashleigh Ortowski and Bailey Miller as well as Tioga’s Kaylee Evans, Kenzee Powers and Sadie Bates.
Lady Pirates top Howe
The Collinsville Lady Pirate basketball team trounced Howe 85-45 Tuesday, Dec. 3 on the road in non-district action.
They opened district play Tuesday, Dec. 10 against Era. Results were not available as of press time.
Lady Rams struggle
The S&S Lady Rams fell to Whitewright 33-27 Tuesday, Dec. 3 at home.
Sela Winborne led the Ram effort with 15 points. Maleeya Stanford had seven points.
The loss took S&S to 3-7 on the year going into their home tournament Thursday.
They opened tourney play with a 33-28 loss to Texoma Christians.
Shelton had six points. Bri Fowler was close behind with five points for S&S.
The loss took the Rams to 3-9 they also had a 35-28 loss to Vernon in tournament play.
Winborne scored 13 points in that match and Stanford had 10 points.
They ended tournament play with a 36-30 win over Pilot Point and a 64-42 loss to Collinsville.
Rams on a skid
The S&S Ram basketball team fell to Whitewright at home Tuesday, Dec. 3 in a 67-33 final.
Brenden Hammer led the Ram effort with 10 points. Elisha Gentry had nine points. Donaven Gingras contributed seven points.
The loss to S&S 0-6 on the year going into their home tournament Thursday.
The Rams closed out the first day of their home tourney with a 79-32 loss to Callisburg.
Joe Orr scored 13 points during that bout. Brightin McNabb had eight points. Caden Daniel chipped in four points for S&S.
The Rams opened tournament play with a 60-40 win over Tom Bean’s junior varsity. Orr scored 18 points in that affair.
McNabb added 11 points. Hammer totaled nine points.
