Pirates sail to quarterfinals
The Collinsville Pirate football team is on to a third straight appearance in the fourth round of the playoffs after a 52-34 victory Friday against the Windthorst Trojans at Iowa Park.
Sophomore quarterback J.J. Jenkins went 20-of-30 passing for 245 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Chad Davidson had four catches for 81 yards and a score. Landry Spivey had four catches for 61 yards. Jaxon Spivey snagged two receptions for 42 yards. Brandon Cantu led the ground attack with 12 carries for 152 yards and three touchdowns.
Chase Sheppard had 10 carries for 106 yards and a score. He also had five catches for 38 yards. Garrett Trevino ran twice for 68 yards and a pair of TDs.
The win took Collinsville to 12-1 on the year— tied with the program’s single-season record set the past two years.
They are set to face District 8-2A (II) rival Muenster Hornets in the region final at 7 p.m. tonight at Munson Stadium in Denison.
Collinsville’s only loss of the year came to Muenster during the regular season on Nov. 1. The Hornets beat two-time defending state champion Albany, 56-14, Friday to advance.
Windthorst finishes the year at 11-2.
Bearcats get All District honors
The dust has settled for Whitesboro High School on the 2024 football season and several Bearcats recently received All-District Honors.
Sophomore Victor Chavez was named Kicker of the Year. Juniors Mason Scarbrough and Brayden Bomar were named First Team Offense and Defense. Sophomore quarterback Colt Fagan was named Offensive Newcomer of the Year and First Team Punter. Senior Troy Randal, junior Elijah Hines and sophomore Korbin Ross were named First Team Defense. Sophomore Lane Espinosa was named First Team Offense. Junior Camron Howard was named Second Team Offense.
Sophomores Camden Stephens and Shayne Gabbert and Freshman Jacob Collier were named Second Team Defense. Freshman Ayce Nelson was named Second Team Offense. Honorable Mention recognition went to Rhet Rudzinski, Hayden Henry, Wyatt Winchester and Axel Castillo.
Bulldogs do well with All Districts honors
After a second-round finish in the State Football playoffs, the Tioga Bulldog football team has hung up their pads and are well represented on the All District team.
Senior Johnny Dorphinghaus was named the District MVP. He finished the 2024 campaign with 1,539 total yards of offense, 13 touchdowns, 59 tackles and two defensive touchdowns.
JD Quintin was named Lineman of the Year.
First Team Offense honors went to seniors Rocky Urich, Austin Norwood, Dorphinhaus, Sam Mott, Gage Anderson and Quintin along with juniors Cooper Fisher and Greely McAden.
First Team Defense awards went to Anderson, Dorphinghaus, Mott, Landon Bingham, Slade Babbitt, Jake David, Justin Arrington and Jaxton DeJerntt.
Honorable Mention awards went to Babbitt, Wesley Wilmon, Caden Downing, Cooper Fisher and Julian Hernadez.
Academic All District Honors went to seniors Andersen, Babbitt, Bingham, Dorphinghaus, Hernandez, Jesus Molina, Mott, Norwood, Quintin, Cason Serna and Tyson Monk; juniors Hunter Cassell, Fishers, McAden, Caleb Moncrief, Ricky Norris and Hayden Roberts; and sophomores David, Jaxson Hurst and Kyson Kirkland.
Bearcats even on the week
The Whitesboro Bearcat basketball team got edged by Commerce 59-58 Tuesday, Nov. 26 on the road.
Max Hinsley led the Bearcat effort with 19 points, three rebounds and three assists. Jacob Knight had 16 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Jack Hinsley had 13 points and five rebounds. Brayden Bomar had four points, four rebounds and three assists.
The loss took Whitesboro to 3-2 on the year.
The Cats also notched a 57-56 victory over Quinlan Ford.
Max Hinsley led there as well with 19 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. Jack Hinsley had 19 points, four rebounds and four steals. Knight had seven points and three assists. Bomar had six points and seven assists. Dax Martin had four points, six rebounds and four assists.
The Bearcats played at Madill Tuesday night. Results were not available as of press time.
Rams still looking for first win
The S&S Ram basketball team fell to Chico 75-51 on the road Monday, Nov. 25.
Joe Orr led the Ram effort with 19 points and four assists. Brenden Hammer had 12 points, four rebounds and four steals. Caden Daniel and Seth Mutz each scored six points. T.J. Johnson had six rebounds.
The loss left S&S 0-4 on the year. They then fell to Pilot Point 73-32 the following day at home.
Hammer led the effort in that outing with 10 points. Orr and Brightin McNabb each offered six points.
The Rams were 0-5 going into Thanksgiving break. They hosted Whitewright Tuesday night. Results were not available as of press time.
