In honor of National Wreaths Across America (WAA) Day, Tioga Cemetery will host a wreath-laying ceremony on Saturday, Dec 14 at 11 a.m. An official WAA location, the cemetery joins more than 2,000 other locations across the country.
Coordinated and led by Tioga Cemetery Association, local volunteers and the Martha Jefferson Randolph chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution have raised the funds to place 155 wreaths on the headstones of our fallen service members at Tioga Cemetery.
This annual event seeks to further the WAA mission of Remember, Honor, Teach, ensuring that the memory of those who served our county endures.
The theme of Wreaths Across America for 2024 is Live With Purpose.
Families of the veterans interred at the Tioga Cemetery are invited to come read the names of loved ones aloud and place a wreath on their loved one’s grave. The cemetery is located at 14667 FM 922 in Tioga.
Wreaths Across America is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization founded to continue and expand the annual wreaths-laying ceremony at Arlington National cemetery begun by Maine businessman Morrill Worcester in 1992.
The organization’s mission is carried out in part each year by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies in December at Arlington, as well as at more than 2,100 veterans’ cemeteries and other locations in all 50 states and overseas.
The campaign to raise funds for the 2025 Wreath Day will begin after the ceremony. Until mid-January, for every two wreaths purchased, WAA will give an additional wreath.
