Eight of the top 10 teams in the state in the final Class 2A Division II regular season poll are still alive after the first two rounds of playoff action.

They are #1 Muenster, #2 Albany, #3 Gruver, #4 Collinsville, #6 Windthorst, #7 Wink, #8 Shiner and #10 Junction.

Stratford (#5) and Mart (#9) were both sent home after the Area Round.

Collinsville’s only loss of the year came to Muenster on Nov. 1.

While Region II features Muenster and Collinsville, Region III doesn’t have a team remaining that won their own district.

Muenster faces Albany tomorrow.

So, wins by both teams would set up a Pirate-Hornet rematch next week.

Wellington finished their season at 9-3 and fell short of the third round for the first time since 2015 and just the second time since 2010.

Bulldogs end playoff run
The Tioga Bulldog football team ended their playoff run with a 33-22 second round loss to Kerens Friday in Royce City.

Their quest to reach the region semifinals for the second straight season was halted by the loss.

The Bulldogs’ lone score in the first half was a 39-yard touchdown pass from Rocky Urich to Austin Norwood.

They took the lead on a 34-yard touchdown pass from Urich to Gage Anderson. The throw was deflected twice before landing in Anderson’s hands at the 25-yard line. From there, he darted to pay dirt.

But Kerens had the final word.

They scored twice in the fourth quarter and the Bulldogs couldn’t answer.

The loss left Tioga 9-3 on the 2024 season and snapped a seven-game winning streak.

Kerens finished with 354 yards of total offense. Of that, 337 yards came on the ground. They will face Hamilton in the region semifinals.
