Lady Pirates rout S&S
The Collinsville Lady Pirate basketball team opened the season in stout fashion with a 78-23 win over S&S Saturday on the road.
Jaydee Matlock led the Pirate attack with 25 points. Ashleigh Ortowski had 21 points. Paige Davidson had 11 points. Caelyn Scott had 10 points. Reese Patterson was close behind with eight points.
Collinsville hosted Pottsboro Tuesday night. Results were not available as of press time.
Maleeya Stanford scored nine points for the Lady Rams. Bri Fowler had seven points. The loss took S&S to 1-2 on the season.

Cats end football season
The Whitesboro Bearcat football team ended their playoff hopes in the first round Friday with a 54-17 loss to Grandview at Grapevine.
Camron Howard led the Bearcat ground game with 19 carries for 67 yards. Rip Harper and Troy Randall both had touchdown runs. Victor Chavez added to the scoring with a 35-yard field goal. Camden Stephens had 10 carries for 55 yards and two catches for 32 yards. Levi Weddel rushed for 55 yards on 12 carries. Brayden Bomar had a 34-yard reception for Whitesboro.
The Bearcats ended the year 6-5 and without sophomore starting quarterback Colt Fagan who suffered a leg injury in the district finale against Pottsboro.
Grandview will face the undefeated Jefferson Bulldogs tonight in the area round.
Pirates dominate Roscoe
The Collinsville Pirates sailed to round two to post-season Friday night with a resounding 52-0 shutout of the Roscoe Plowboys at Breckenridge. The final was set at halftime.
The second half involved two serious injuries, one on each team, that led to the game being called in the fourth quarter. Sophomore quarterback J.J. Jenkins went 21-of-30 passing for 311 yards and four touchdowns. Chad Davidson landed three catches for 79 yards and two scores. Garrett Trevino rushed four times for 45 yards and two TDs. Brandon Cantu ran 11 times for 92 yards. He also caught a 14-yard touchdown pass.
Jaxon Spivey had six catches for 31 yards and a score. Chase Sheppard had 11 carries for 53 yards and a TD. Peyton Davidson had five catches for 90 yards. Cash Morgan had three catches for 55 yards for Collinsville.
The Pirates scored on each of their eight drives in the first half which ended with a 23-yard Isaiah Smith field goal as time expired. Collinsville’s defense held Roscoe to only 19 yards and two first downs in the first half. The Plowboys punted five times and Peyton Davidson hauled in an interception.
Collinsville will face Wellington in the area round tonight in Iowa Park. Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m.
Bulldogs bulldoze Ballinger
The Tioga Bulldog football team is on to round two of the playoffs after a 42-7 win over Ballinger Friday at Boyd.
Quarterback Rocky Urich went 33-of-45 passing for 543 yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions. Austin Norwood had 10 catches for 192 yards and four TDs. Johnny Dorpinghaus had four catches for 100 yards and a TD. Jake David had four catches for 72 yards and a TD. He also grabbed two interceptions.
Jonathan Hernandez had three catches for 55 yards. Greely McAden had four catches for 50 yards on four receptions.
The Bulldogs win took them to 9-2 on the year. They have won nine games in back-to-back seasons for the first time in program history. They will face Kerens in the area round tonight at Royse City. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
Lady Cats fall to G’ville
The Whitesboro Lady Cat basketball team fell to Gainesville 42-35 Nov. 12 on the road.
Allison Eldredge led the Lady Cat effort with nine points, five rebounds and three steals. Izzy Gabbert had six points, eight rebounds and three assists. Claire Ortiz had nine rebounds.
Lauren Muntz had four points and four rebounds. The loss left the Lady Cats at 0-2 looking to bounce back against Muenster Saturday at home.
Rams drop opener
The S&S Ram basketball team dropped their season opener Nov. 12 on the road at Valley View with a 74-48 score.
Joe Orr led Ram scoring with 14 points. Brenden Hammer was close behind with 13 points. Adam Mutz had eight points.
The Rams played at Greenville Christian Friday.
