Cats open with win on the hardwood
The Whitesboro Bearcat basketball team opened the ‘24-’25 season Friday with a 63-61 win over Gainesville on the road.
Jacob Knight led the Bearcat attack with 19 points, 10 assists and three rebounds.
Jack Hinsley was close behind with 18 points, 11 rebounds and three steals. Max Hinsley had 17 points, four rebounds and three assists. Dax Martin offered six points and four rebounds.
Ezra Melton landed seven rebounds.
The Bearcats hosted Sanger Tuesday night. Results were not available as of press time.
Lady Rams fall to Slidell
The S&S Lady Ram basketball team opened their season Friday with a 39-18 loss on the road to Slidell.
Bri Fowler led Ram scoring with eight points. Dandree Meeks had four points.
S&S will host Callisburg tonight.
Cats fall to Pottsboro, take 3rd in district
The regular season finale in district 6-3A was just as significant as had been expected all season long.
Playoff seeding was at stake in the Battle of the ‘Boros and, ultimately, Whitesboro’s 56-18 road loss to Pottsboro set the scene for the post season.
Whitesboro finished district play in third place at 6-4 on the year and 4-2 in district. They lined up against Grandview in a bi-district round Thursday at Grapevine-Colleyville’s Mustang Panther Stadium.

Pottsboro finished the year second in district. Their only loss of the season came to District Champion Palmer.
The Cardinals opened the post season Thursday against Maypearl at Mesquite Memorial Stadium.

Against Pottsboro, Wyatt Winchester had a 70-yard kickoff return for the Bearcats that ended in a touchdown.
The Winchester return was the first Bearcat score of the night, but didn’t come until the opening of the second half.
Rip Harper came in for starting quarterback Colt Fagan who suffered a leg injury on the Bearcats’ first offensive play. Harper went 10-of-19 passing for 100 yards, a TD and two interceptions. Levi Weddel had seven carries for 54 yards. Brayden Bomar had the touchdown reception.
Pirates top Santo, on to the playoffs
The Collinsville Pirates finished off the regular season Friday with a 48-7 win over Santo on the road.
Sophomore quarterback J.J. Jenkins went 20-of-25 passing for 217 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed twice for 51 yards and a TD.
Brandon Cantu ran the ball nine times for 67 yards and a score. Chase Sheppard had six carries for 63 yards and a score. He also landed a touchdown reception.
Jaxon Spivey had five catches for 74 yards and a score. Chad Davidson had two catches for 52 yards and a TD. Riley Patterson also had a touchdown reception when he connected with Jenkins for a 12-yard score that capped off scoring with 3:16 in the fourth quarter.
The win was a rebound for the Pirates who came off their only loss of the season the week prior to Muenster.
The Pirates opened the post-season Thursday against Roscoe at Breckenridge. Results were not available as of press time.
Tioga shutsout Nocona
The Tioga Bulldog football team secured another District Championship Friday with a 62-0 home win over Nocona.
They ran the table in district play and open the post -season tonight against Ballinger.
Against Nocona, quarterback Rocky Urich went 28-of-39 passing for 422 yards and six touchdowns.
Austin Norwood had six catches for 113 yards and two touchdowns. Johnny Dorpinghaus had six catches for 89 yards and a score. He also returned a fumble for a TD.
Kyson Kirkland had a touchdown catch and returned a blocked punt for another score. Gage Anderson and Greeley McAden both had touchdown receptions.
The win took the Bulldogs to 8-2 on the year and 6-0 in district play. They will meet Ballinger in Boyd tonight for 7 p.m. kick-off.
Rams end with loss
The S&S Ram football team ended their year Friday night with a 49-13 loss against Callisburg on the road. The loss left the Rams at 0-10 for a second year. They have lost 26 consecutive games.
Callisburg ended the year at 4-6 overall and 2-4 in district.
They finished fifth in the standings and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2019.
Lady Pirates win Area
The Collinsville Lady Pirate volleyball team advanced to the region semifinals for the second straight season after toppling North Hopkins in four sets (25-20, 27-25, 20-25, 15-25, 15-11) Thursday at Howe.
The win took Collinsville to 23-18 on the year. They face Bremond Tuesday night in the Regional Semifinal Round at Athens.

Lady Cats end run
The Whitesboro Lady Cat volleyball team ended their first playoff run in seven years Friday with a three-set loss (25-18, 25-20, 25-17) to Gunter in Tioga.
Gunter went on to face New Diana in the region semifinals.
Whitesboro posted its best season since 2017 and finished the year with a 24-17 record .
