Downtown Whitesboro was the place to be last Thursday night as hundreds of people gathered to attend the annual Trunks and Tailgates with Treats.
About a dozen decorated cars lined Main Street downtown to celebrate Halloween. Individuals and businesses alike gave out candy and small toys to trick-or-treaters. First United Methodist Church had a booth in the median giving out free hot dogs and candy.
Popular costumes this year included inflatable characters (such as a giant chicken, a pair of flamingoes and several dinosaurs), superheroes and TV and movie characters.
Some creative costumes included a tornado (batting with small cows, farm pieces and a string of flickering lights) and a decorated baby wagon to look like the claw machine from “Toy Story.”
Around the corner on Center Street, the First Baptist Church of Whitesboro also held their annual trunk-or-treat event.
Numerous decorated cars filled their parking lot where kids could play games and participate in activities to win candy.
Located between the two events, one household on Center Street welcomed a total of 1,300 trick-or-treaters on Halloween night.
The weather was perfect as a small cold front had blown in earlier that day, making it feel like fall just in time for kids to go door-to-door in search of treats.
All in all, it was another fun, successful Halloween in the ‘Boro.
Anyone interested in giving out candy at next year’s Trunks and Tailgates with Treats event should contact Mayor Dave Blaylock.
