The Collinsville Lady Pirates advanced to the second round of the volleyball playoffs Monday night after sweeping Chico in three sets at Denton. They will face North Hopkins in round two. Game details are unavailable as of press time.

Lady Cats pick-up post-season win
The Lady Bearcat volleyball program picked up their first post-season win in seven years Tuesday night with a three-set (25-17, 25-19, 25-13) victory over Young Women’s Leadership Academy in a Class 3A Division I Region II bi-district match at Denton High School.

They entered the playoffs in third place and Tuesday was the program’s first playoff appearance in six years. It was the first post-season win since 2017 for Whitesboro.

They went to 24-16 on the year and faced four-time defending region champion Gunter in the area round Thursday at Tioga.

Results were not available as of press time.


Lady Pirates on to Round Two
The Collinsville Lady Pirate volleyball team swept Chico (29-27, 25-14, 25-21) Monday night in a Class 2A Division II Region II bi-district match at Denton High School.

The win took Collinsville to 22-18 on the year. 

They will face North Hopkins later this week in the area round. Gametime and location were not available as of press time.


Lady Bulldogs exit early
The Lady Bulldog volleyball team exited the playoffs in round one Monday night after a three-set loss (25-8, 25-11, 25-16)  to Lindsay in a Class 2A Division I Region II bi-district match at Callisburg. Tioga finished the season at 20-27.

Lady Cats run at State
The Whitesboro Lady Bearcat cross country team placed 13th in the team standings last week with 261 points at the State Meet in Round Rock. 
They were 10 points from being in the top 10.

Junior Aubrey Beam led Whitesboro with a 19th-place finish in a time of 12:16.80. Junior Reagan Downs was 81st in 13:08.80. Freshman Karen Melchor was 93rd with a time of 13:20.80. Sophomore Tammy Lopez placed 109th in 13:34.50. Freshman Winley Turpin was 118th in 13:43.40. Sophomore Jasmin Hernandez was 130th in 13:56.80.  Sophomore Sydnie Duhon placed 140th with a time of 14:12.80.

Holliday won the state championship with 35 points. East Bernard was the runner-up with 103 points. Dalhart placed third with 148 points.

Pirates place 5th at State XC Meet
Collinsville junior Bryan Hailey finished fifth last week in the Class 2A State Cross Country meet and helped lead his team to a fifth place finish in the team standings.
Hailey logged a time of 16:58.80.

Collinsville earned 144 total points for fifth and just behind Tenaha’s total of 141 points. 

Collinsville sophomore Fernando Perez finished 17th with a time of 17:15.30. Junior Isaiah Smith was 40th in 17:48.30. Junior Austin Caldwell was 64th in 18:18.40. Junior Brandon Cantu was 109th in 19:39.60. Senior Gavin Russell was right behind with a time of 19:41.40. Junior Chad Davidson placed 114th in 19:53.70.

Plains won the team championship with 52 points. Windthorst took second with 98 points. New Summerfield took third with 107 points.

Bearcats top Pilot Point 
The Whitesboro Bearcat football team secured a post-season berth last week with a 37-21 win over Pilot Point at home. 

Sophomore quarterback Colt Fagan went 9-of-14 passing for 170 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed 11 times for 119 yards and three touchdowns. 

Brayden Bomar had four catches for 94 yards and a score. Camron Howard ran 10 times for 88 yards and a TD. Rhet Rudzinski had two catches for 32 yards for Whitesboro.

The Bearcats pitched a second-half shutout to hold onto second place in the district standings ahead of tonight’s road bout against Pottsboro. The winner will lock in the second-place spot going into the post-season. The loser will advance to the playoffs in third place.

Pirates fall to Muenster 
The Pirate football team suffered their first loss of the season Friday night on the road. 

The Muenster Hornets denied Collinsville a third straight district championship with their 34-20 victory.

Chad Davidson led the Pirate offense with three catches for 78 yards and two touchdowns. Sophomore quarterback J.J. Jenkins completed 17-of-31 passes for 226 yards with two TDs and an interception. Jaxon Spivey had six catches for 63 yards. Peyton Davidson added 61 yards on three catches. Garrett Trevino ran 17 times for 51 yards.

The loss took Collinsville to 8-1 on the year and 3-1 in district. They will close the regular season tonight at Santo before looking ahead to the post-season next week.

Tioga topples Wolfe City
The Tioga Bulldog football team earned their third straight district title last week with a 60-36 win over Wolfe City on the road. 

Senior Austin Norwood led the attack with three catches for 112 yards and two touchdowns. Rocky Urich went 12-of-20 passing for 302 yards, five touchdowns and an interception. Sam Mott finished with 93 yards and two TDs on three catches. Johnny Dorpinghaus had two catches for 69 yards and a TD. He also ran three times for 72 yards and a touchdown. Gage Anderson ran eight times for 64 yards and a score. Slade Babbitt had a pick-six.

The win took Tioga to 7-2 on the year and 5-0 in district. They hosted Nocona Thursday night after being rescheduled from Friday due to forecasted bad weather.

Lady Cats down C’burg, on to playoffs
The Whitesboro Lady Cat volleyball team secured a third-place district finish on Oct. 29 with a three-set win (25-10, 25-14, 25-21) over Callisburg at home. 
Whitesboro ended the regular season 23-16 on the year and 7-5 in district. They opened the playoffs Tuesday night in Denton.

Lady Rams end season
The S&S Lady Rams volleyball team closed out their season Oct. 29 with a win in three sets (26-24, 25-19, 25-22) over Leonard on the road.
S&S finished fifth in the standings— just missing the post-season— at 17-22 on the year and 4-8 in district.
