The Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce (GACC) is thrilled to announce the grand reveal of the city’s latest mural, now adorning the walls of the Gainesville Texas DPS building at 206 W. California St. This vibrant masterpiece enriches the beautiful landscape of downtown Gainesville and is set to become a focal point for residents and visitors alike.
“The journey to bring this mural to life began in April of 2023 and took 18 months to complete,” GACC CEO Jennifer Shumate said. “The finished product was well worth the wait. We understand how crucial a picturesque downtown is, not only for our local community but also for those exploring Gainesville. This mural is a perfect way to capture their attention.”
The initiative represents a collaborative effort involving the GACC, Cooke County, County Commissioners, County Judge and the City of Gainesville. The project was led by the GACC alongside a committee of local artists tasked with selecting a singular artist from numerous outstanding submissions.
The GACC put out a call to artists for proposals in 2023, seeking an artist who could create a mural that “highlights Gainesville area history and culture.” After receiving multiple outstanding proposals for the project, the GACC and its committee chose artist Charlie Partin to paint the mural.
“Charlie was the unanimous choice among all parties due to his creative vision, distinctive style and exceptional ability to effectively interpret what this mural needed,” Shumate said.
The GACC encourages everyone to join them in celebrating the completion of this mural during a ribbon cutting ceremony scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 4:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
The GACC encourages everyone to visit the new mural, snap photos and share their experiences on social media by tagging the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce with the hashtag #goseegville. Attend this celebration of art and community and keep an eye out for potential future murals in the works.
