The Whitesboro Area Chamber of Commerce 58th Annual Peanut Festival took place last weekend, welcoming thousands of people to the town.
With nearly 300 vendor booths lining the streets of the city, this year’s event was the largest the chamber has ever thrown.
The weather couldn’t have been nicer for visitors and citizens alike to enjoy the four entertainment stages, McDonald’s Kid Alley, McDaniel’s food court, Southern Cross Car Club car show, carnival and more.
The day officially began at 8 a.m. with vendors open for shopping. At 9:30 a.m., Whitesboro Mayor Dave Blaylock welcomed the crowd and the Main Street parade kicked off the festivities at 10 a.m.
All day long, people could enjoy shopping, eating, drinking and listening to live acts like the WayOuts, Blackout Betty, TNT and the Smoking Horn Section and a variety of secular music at the Gospel Stage.
Numerous raffles took place throughout the day, including the Whitesboro Fire Department’s “30 Guns in 30 Minutes” drawing and the chamber’s 2024 Chevy Silverado pick-up truck raffle. (The winner was Kameron Klement.)
Local talent like the Whitesboro High School marching band and The Ranch Cheer & Tumble gym performed at the Holiday Chevrolet Main Stage.
King Entertainment’s Globe of Death amazed audiences at Trollinger Park.
The event ended at 4 p.m., and by 7 p.m., the only evidence that such an event had even occurred were a few barricades and trash barrels to be picked up by the city.
Considering the influx of people in the small town, it was impressive that the police reported not a single incident had taken place all day.
The Peanut Festival is a time-honored tradition that celebrates the city’s rich heritage of peanut farming which has led to the success of the town today.
The event takes place the third Saturday of each October and continues to remain a beloved tradition for families near and far.
