Each year the Whitesboro Ministerial Alliance (WMA) is blessed to be able to help many families in need at the holidays with Christmas Food Baskets.
The WMA works jointly with the Whitesboro Fire Department (WFD) -- the WMA supplies food while the WFD supplies toys for school-aged children.
This annual event brings many churches and volunteers from the community together to accomplish the wonderful task of meeting human need in the name of Jesus Christ.
Mike Flanagan, Pastor of First Baptist Church of Whitesboro, said, “We sometimes fail to recognize the benefits of living in a city like Whitesboro. It’s not very often that you find churches of different denominations, not to mention the fire department and local schools, coming together to accomplish such a large undertaking. But it works every year! Each year families are blessed by the goodness of the people of Whitesboro.”
Flanagan added that without the contributions of the four campuses of Whitesboro ISD, this event would not be possible.
Each year the schools donate several thousand cans of food to be given out to needy families.
Churches and schools are encouraged to begin collecting canned and non-perishable food products early this year and to have them ready for delivery the week before distribution day, which will be Saturday, Dec. 14.
Residents are encouraged to bring canned goods to the CLC of First Baptist beginning Monday, Dec. 9.
Families desiring a food basket and toys this year need to complete an application at First Baptist Church in Whitesboro. Applications will be received from Whitesboro, Dixie, Sandusky, Gordonville and Sherwood Shores. Applications are available immediately on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-4 p.m. The deadline for making an application is Tuesday, Nov 19; applications will not be accepted past this date.
To make a contribution other than by donation of food products, please make your donation payable to “Whitesboro Ministerial Alliance” and mail or bring to 124 Center St, Whitesboro, TX. 76273.
