The Men’s Ministry of First Baptist Church (FBC) Whitesboro will host Wild Beast Feast on Sunday, Oct. 27 at 5 p.m. at the church. Featured speakers include renowned outdoorsman and fisherman, Jimmy Houston and local writer, Lynn Burkhead.
“I’m excited to be able to connect with other men who share my passions and experiences in hunting, fishing, marriage and fatherhood,” event coordinator Aaron Park said. “Sharing stories of successes and failures creates a valuable learning environment, and having a legendary figure like Jimmy Houston to inspire the discussions adds to the experience. It’s exciting to see our community prioritizing fellowship and growth in such a meaningful way.”
The event, which has been in the planning stages for several months, will include a wide range of activities, including axe throwing, corn hole, pitching washers and samples of many types of wild game.
The Texas Parks & Wildlife’s “wall of shame” will be on site which includes many trophy animals which were seized from poachers. There will also be many other trophy animals on display for viewing. Give-aways will include archery lessons, coolers, fishing and hunting gear, gift cards, hats and much more.
The highlight of the evening includes a meal of fried catfish and all the trimmings, and then hearing from Houston, who has a passion for men and the outdoors and has a wonderful way of sharing the importance of walking with Jesus Christ while enjoying God’s creation.
Burkhead, who has written for ESPN and many other publications, will also challenge the group in their faith in Christ.
Longtime church member and outdoor enthusiast Doug Rodgers is looking forward to hearing them speak.
“It will be exciting to see how God is going to move and touch a group of like-minded outdoors enthusiasts through an inspirational message from Jimmy and Lynn,” Rodgers said.
The event has long been a dream for FBC Pastor Mike Flanagan.
“I was taught to hunt and fish and enjoy the outdoors as a boy by my grandfather. It has been one of my greatest joys to pass that on to my children. A fishing boat or deer stand have often been my ‘go-to places’ for a time to really focus on my walk with God, and sometimes I just sit in wonder at His creation,” Flanagan said.
Boys and men are invited to come and be a part of the fun and fellowship. Tickets are limited and can be purchased at the First Baptist Church office (903-564-3546) or at www.fbcwhitesboro.org (click on Adults/Men’s Ministries to register).
