The Denison Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for their first-ever Grayson’s Leading + Outstanding Women of Influence (GLOWI) Awards luncheon. Nominations are due Friday, Oct. 4 by 5 p.m.

When brainstorming ideas for a fourth-quarter luncheon, the Denison Chamber of Commerce wanted to host an event that would honor women. As discussions continued, the idea grew into a county-wide initiative that would change the narrative and elevate women in a variety of categories.

The GLOWI Awards will celebrate women who have contributed significantly to Grayson County through leadership, innovation and dedication. The public is invited to nominate women of influence in any of the following categories: Arts and Culture, Business and Entrepreneurship, Community, Young Woman (age 20-30) or Academic.

“We’re really looking for people making an impact in their role,” GLOWI Committee Chair Dr. Molly Harris, VP of Community Engagement at Grayson College, said. “Nominees can be any woman who lives in Grayson County.”

Once the nominations have been collected, nominees can submit applications until Oct. 25. Then, a panel of independent judges (from outside the county, to avoid any perceived bias) will review the applications and choose the winner for each category. Winners will then be announced at a luncheon on Nov. 20 at 11:30 a.m.

The luncheon will be held at Blue Willow Café and will include a menu of fall-inspired selections. Dr. Michelle Fowler, TMC Chief Medical Officer, will be the keynote speaker. Guests will learn about the challenges Dr. Fowler encountered in her career as a woman in the field of medicine.

Tickets for the luncheon are $50 and anyone is welcome to attend.

“This event is important enough and is getting enough traction that it could become a stand-alone event in the future,” Harris said. “We’re excited to celebrate these amazing women and we look forward to seeing what this event can become.”
