Bearcats tame Tigers
The Whitesboro Bearcat varsity football team bounced back into the win column, by the margin of a field goal, Friday night and topped the Commerce Tigers 27-24 on the road.
Victor Chavez landed a 25-yard field goal with 1:19 left on the clock to seal the deal. Sophomore quarterback Colt Fagan went 14-of-27 passing for 220 yards and three touchdowns.
Brayden Bomar grabbed six catches for 66 yards and a score. Mason Scarbrough had three catches for 38 yards and a touchdown. Wyatt Winchester also had a touchdown catch for Whitesboro.
The win is head coach Cody Fagan’s 40th as a Whitesboro Bearcat.
They advanced to 2-2 on the year and have a bye tonight before opening district play against Life Oak Cliff next week.
Bearcat athletes post stellar grade checks
Six weeks into the school, the Whitesboro Bearcat athletics department is reporting stellar academic progress among all athletes.
According to a post on social media Tuesday, 98.1% of all Bearcat athletes have posted passing grades as of the first six-week grade check.
Of that, 98.3% of boys are passing and 98.1% of girls.
When broken down by sport, 98.5% of football players are passing on classes but volleyball, cross country and tennis are all reporting 100% passing grades among participants.
Pirates outlast Wolfe City
A first-half blowout turned into a second-half shootout as the Collinsville Pirates (4-0) defeated the Wolfe City Wolves (2-1) with a score of 55-42 to remain unbeaten.
The Pirates’ 21-point lead at halftime was enough to overcome a massive rushing performance by the Wolves’ H.D. Davis, who amassed 328 yards on the ground while scoring 5 touchdowns.
Collinsville’s leading rusher, Garrett Trevino, also turned in an impressive performance as he ran for 219 yards and scored three touchdowns.
The game stats on the night were unbelievable. Wolfe City totaled 566 yards of offense while Collinsville totaled 588 yards of offense to make the grand total of 1,154 yards of total
offense!
The Pirates scored eight touchdowns while the Wolves scored six touchdowns. The teams combined for 97 total points.
Collinsville next takes their unbeaten streak to Graham, where they will play a neutral site game against Coleman tonight, Sept. 27.
Rebels rout Rams
The S&S Ram varsity football team is still searching for their first win of the season after a 65-21 loss to Rivercrest Friday at home.
Quarterback Hunter Courville went 8-of-18 passing for 127 yards. He also had two touchdowns and two interceptions and ran 14 times for 52 yards and a TD.
Joe Orr had seven catches for 126 yards and two touchdowns. Kenny Melton had 15 carries for 82 yards.
The loss leaves the Rams 0-4 on the year and was the 2oth straight loss for the Ram program.
They open district tonight hosting Howe.
Tioga falls to Lone Oak
The Tioga Bulldog varsity football team came up on the short end of a 41-22 at Lone Oak Friday.
Senior Johnny Dorpinghaus led the Bulldog production with five carries for 50 yards and a score. He also had four catches for 43 yards.
Jake David had two catches for 64 yards and a score. Justin Arrington returned an interception for a score. Sam Mott had three catches for 40 yards. Sophomore quarterback Cole Boyd entered the game after starter Rocky Ulrich left with an injury.
Boyd went 14-of-25 passing for 183 yards. He had a touchdown and an interception. The loss took Tioga to 2-2 on the year.
They open district play tonight at Trenton.
Lady Cats fall to Lindsay
The Whitesboro Lady Bearcat volleyball team fell to Lindsay in three sets (25-21, 25-11, 25-22) at home Friday night.
The loss took Whitesboro to 17-12 on the year.
They returned to district play by hosting Boyd on Tuesday night. Results were not available as of press time.
S&S falls to Blue Ridge
The S&S Lady Ram volleyball team lost to Blue Ridge in four sets (22-25, 20-25, 25-21, 25-14) Friday night at home in district action.
The loss took S&S to 12-17 on the year and still searcing for their first win in district play.
They hosted Gunter Tuesday night. Results were not available as of press time.
Lady Bulldogs lose to Lone Oak
The Tioga Lady Bulldog volleyball team got swept by Lone Oak (25-19, 25-18, 25-18) on the road Friday night in non-district play.
The loss took Tioga to 15-20 on the year ahead of Tuesday’s match against Trenton. Results were not available as of press time.
Lady Cats top Pilot Point
The Whitesboro Lady Bearcat volleyball team top Pilot Point in three sets (25-15, 25-20, 25-15) Tuesday, Sept. 17 at home in district play.
The win took Whitesboro to 17-11 on the year and 1-1 in district play.
They had a district bye on Friday but stayed tuned up with a non-district match against Lindsay.
They hosted Boyd on Tuesday night. Results were not available as of press time.
Lady Rams fall to Pottsboro
The S&S Lady Ram volleyball team fell to Pottsboro in five sets (25-10, 25-11, 20-25, 25-27, 15-5) Tuesday, Sept. 17 in district play at home.
The loss took S&S to 12-16 on the year and 0-2 in district. They will host Blue Ridge Friday night.
Lady Pirates lose to Lindsay
The Collinsville Lady Pirate suffered a three set (25-9, 25-10, 25-11) road loss Sept. 17 to Lindsay.
The loss to the Lady Pirates to 12-16 on the year.
They hosted Poolville Friday.
Lady Bulldogs beat Bonham
The Tioga Lady Bulldog volleyball team picked up a 3-1 (25-21, 20-25, 25-19, 26-24 ) non-district road win over Bonham on Tuesday, Sept. 17.
Kennedy Slay led the Tioga attack with 16 kills and two blocks.
Kyndall Whitley had 13 kills and 21 digs. Kaitlyn Garrison chipped in 20 digs.
The win took Tioga to 15-19 on the year.
They traveled to Lone Oak on Friday.
