For the first time in many years, Whitesboro will host its own “National Night Out” event on Oct. 1.
From 6-9 p.m. at Whitecotton Park, the community can enjoy refreshments, grab bags, bounce houses for the kids, touch-a-truck and more.
According to their website, National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances
Typically held on the first Tuesday in October, National Night Out is also an opportunity for communities to learn about police programs like drug prevention, town watch, neighborhood watch and other anti-crime efforts.
The event was proposed by Whitesboro Police Chief Alex Coss at a recent City Council meeting. National Night Out is an effective way to achieve his personal goal of building stronger relationships between law enforcement and citizens.
“I am proud to provide the citizens of Whitesboro an opportunity to meet and fellowship with their public service officers,” Coss said.
Because this event falls on a regularly scheduled City Council meeting night, Council has canceled their meeting and will only meet once in October (Oct. 15 at 4 p.m.).
