Local district boasts 3 Top 10 teams
After their commanding win over Callisburg last week the Collinsville Pirates have moved up to Number 8 in this week’s Dave Campbell’s Texas Football rankings for Class 2A DII.
They were ranked at Number 10 last week.
Notably, they are joined in the Top 10 with district foes Muenster, at Number 3, and Lindsay, at Number 10.
The rankings effectively make District 8, the most competitive in the state.
Collinsville entered the top 10 last week after a commanding win over Cooper.
They moved up two spots this week after playing up a divisions and beating 3A/DII Callisburg 28-14 at home.
They look to keep pace at Wolfe City tonight.
Muenster has been a favorite all year and proved themselves worthy of the placement after a 56-21 win over Number 6 Windthorst on the road Friday night.
They look to keep the momentum going tonight— playing up two divisions— to host the 3A/DI Pottsboro Cardinals.
Lindsay is the newcomer to the Top 10 discussion.
The Knights opened 2024 with a 47-5 win over Nocona and two shutouts.
They topped Alvord 47-0 in week two and took out 3A/DI Pilot Point with a 35-0 win last week.
The Knights amassed nearly 500 yards on the ground in both week two and week three matchups.
They travel to Leonard tonight.
The three local teams are joined in the Top 10 by Mart,1; Stratford, 2; Bremond, 4; Albany, 5; Windthorst, 6; Wellington, 7; and Lovelady, 9.
Cats shutout by Graham
The Whitesboro Bearcat football team failed to gain any traction Friday night at home against the Graham Steers.
The Cats fell to 1-2 on the season after losing 58-0.
They look to bounce back tonight on the road against Commerce.
Rams down to Nocona
The S&S Ram football team found the end zone multiple times but still came up short to Nocona with 42-32 on the road Friday night.
Kenny Melton led the Ram attack with 10 carries for 109 yards and a touchdown.
He also returned a fumble 64 yards for paydirt.
Hunter Courville finished with 16 carries for 114 yards.
He also went 8-of-24 passing for 95 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions.
He also had a 37-yard fumble return for a score.
Elisha Gentry caught a 59-yard touchdown pass.
S&S looks to end a 19-game losing streak when they host Rivercrest tonight.
Bulldogs pull out squeaker over Edgewood
The Tioga Bulldog football team advanced to 2-1 on the year with a late 30-27 over Edgewood Friday night at home.
Senior quarterback Rocky Urich sealed the deal with a one-yard keeper in the final minutes.
The Bulldogs came from behind to win late in the game for the second straight week in a row— having edged Ponder by a point in week two.
Urich went 24-of-44 and threw for 256 yards with a touchdown and an interception.
He also ran the ball six times for 38 yards and a TD.
Senior running back Johnny Dorpinghaus had eight receptions for 111 yards.
Jake David had 70 yards and a score on seven receptions.
Austin Norwood had six catches for 57 yards and returned a fumble for a TD.
Slade Babbitt has a pick-six.
The win took Tioga to 2-1 on the year.
They travel to Lone Oak tonight.
Lady Cats lose to Ponder
The Whitesboro Lady Bearcat volleyball team got swept (25-15, 25-10, 25-11) Friday, Sept. 13 by Ponder in their district opener.
The loss took Whitesboro to 16-11 on the year as they hosted Pilot Point Tuesday night.

Lady Rams top Tom Bean, Bells
The S&S Lady Ram volleyball team closed out their non-district schedule in three sets (25-16, 25-22, 25-20) over Tom Bean Tuesday Sept. 10 on the road.
A committee of Lady Rams including Lily Nunn, Brady Clark, Lana Walters, Maleeya Stanford and Emily Bullard set the pace for S&S— as they have all season.
The win took S&S to 12-14 on the year ahead of Friday’s district road opener at Bells where they picked up a win in three sets (25-9, 25-15, 25-13)
After opening district play with a win, S&S hosted Pottsboro Tuesday night results were not available as of press time.
Collinsville ladies beat Howe
The Collinsville Lady Pirate volleyball team swept Howe in three sets (25-20, 25-15, 25-15) at home Tuesday, Sept. 10 in non-district play.
Collinsville had a bye Friday and played Lindsay Tuesday night. Results were not available as of press time.
Tioga edges Wolfe City, loses to Alvord
The Tioga Lady Bulldog volleyball team bested Wolfe City in four sets (26-24, 17-25, 28-26, 25-20) on the road Tuesday, Sept. 10 in non-district play.
Kaylee Evans led the attack with 12 kills.
Freshman Ali Patterson had 11 kills.
Sophomores Kyndall Whitley and Kennedy Slay each had nine kills.
Sadie Bates offered 18 assists and 17 digs.
Kaitlyn Garrison had 19 digs.
The win took Tioga to 11-18 ahead of Friday’s road loss to Alvord.
The Lady Bulldogs came up short in four sets (18-25, 14-25, 25-17, 23-25) in non-district play.
They were 11-19 going on the road to Bonham on Tuesday night. Results were not available as of press time.
