North Union Church of Christ to host four-day ‘Singing with the Spirit’ musical seminar

North Union Church of Christ to host four-day ‘Singing with the Spirit’ musical seminar

The North Union Church of Christ will host a four-day seminar, “Singing with the Spirit.”

From Sept. 8-11, community members can attend a series of classes to help train men in the art of proficiently leading their congregational singing. It will also teach members of the congregation the importance of understanding the church’s songs.

The guest speaker for this seminar is Myron Bruce. Bruce has served in the ministry for more than 40 years, working in Colorado, Texas and Oklahoma.

“Singing with the Spirit” is one of many seminars Bruce has developed to aid the local congregation and inspire the Lord’s church worldwide.

For more information, email Bruce at [email protected] or follow him on Facebook @Singing With the Spirit. For those wanting to read his work, Bruce’s books, “The Splendor of Worship” and “This is My Song,” can be purchased on Amazon.com.

The North Union Church of Christ seminar aims to teach attendees how to appreciate the message of songs through their storied history; how to select songs that enhance our worship to God; how to use the heart and the voice to communicate each song’s message; and how to effectively develop the vital role of leading singing in the growth of the local congregation.

“We are called to sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs, but do you know which of our songs are hymns? What exactly is a spiritual song? How often do you sing from the psalms?” preacher Ryan Mangum said. “This seminar will answer these and other questions about our congregational singing.”

The seminar begins at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 8 and ends with a 7 p.m. session on Wednesday, Sept. 11.

Classes range from singing together to discussion, and most days include a special event.

Sunday there is a potluck luncheon. Tuesday there is a  Friends & Fellowship event, in which the community is invited to attend and enjoy dessert and coffee after the service that night.
Wednesday there is a brown bag supper (drinks will be provided).

The seminar will be held at the North Union Church of Christ at 209 N. Union Street in Whitesboro.
