Daniel Morgan Chiniewicz, 39, of Collinsville, was convicted on multiple counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child and was sentenced to 35 years in prison.
The conviction stems from a plea agreement with the Grayson County Criminal District Attorney’s Office. Judge Jim Fallon of the 15th District Court pronounced sentence.
Due to the aggravated nature of his conviction, Chiniewicz will be required to serve at least half of his sentence before being considered for parole and must register as a sex offender for life. The victim was also granted a lifetime protective order.
In October of 2023, Collinsville Police began conducting an investigation of sexual abuse of a child. While at school, a young child made an outcry of sexual abuse. The child victim was taken to the Children’s Advocacy Center and later made a very detailed statement about the abuse that was suffered.
The victim was later transported to Children’s Medical Center for a physical examination.
Collinsville Police promptly brought the suspect in for questioning where he admitted to sexually assaulting the young victim.
According to the suspect, the last act of abuse had been just days earlier and the first abuse had occurred several years ago.
“Unfortunately these cases are far too common and they leave a wake of destruction in the life a child. We hope this sentence provides a starting point for the victim to get on a path to recovery,” Assistant District Attorney Nathan Young said.
“It is so important for the public to understand that an extremely high percentage of sexual abusers are someone known to the family and someone with easy access to the child. Stay vigilant,” District Attorney Brett Smith said.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Nathan Young.
