First Baptist Church (FBC) of Whitesboro announces the opening of First Steps Weekday Education.

The primary function of the ministry is to assist parents in giving their children loving and intentional instruction to begin their journey of both education and faith.

“I am very excited to have these children coming to First Steps to begin building a foundation of faith in their Creator,” FBC Family Pastor Curtis Barrett said. “It will be amazing to assist families in helping their children know and love Jesus.”

Unlike a typical “Mother’s Day Out” program with extended babysitting for parents a couple of days per week, First Steps Weekday Education is planned and purposeful instruction with the use of curriculum suitable for each age group.

First Baptist has seen that younger families with pre-school children need extra support. The church offers many other programs which provide such support to families but felt that a weekday education ministry would fill even deeper needs in the community.

“I am excited to launch this ministry,” First Steps Director Robyn Westbrook said. “It will give me the opportunity to support children and their parents in their early educational journey, foster friendships and gain an understanding of Jesus.”

The reception by parents in Whitesboro has been overwhelmingly positive. When the ministry was announced, some moms were brought to tears, overcome by the opportunity to get the support they need. Not only will it be beneficial for their children, but it gives parents encouragement knowing they are not alone on this journey.

The ministry kicks off on Tuesday, Aug. 20 and will meet each Tuesday and Thursday in the new, fully equipped Preschool and Children’s Ministry Center located at 129 Center Street (one block north of downtown.)

There are currently openings in the one-year-old class and the four-year-old class. Contact Robyn at 903-564-3546 for information on enrollment.
