The Whitesboro Police Department and the Whitesboro Fire Department are facing off in a Battle of the Badges, and they’re out for blood. Literally.

The two departments are participating in a blood drive through the Texoma Regional Blood Center (TRBC). Last Friday, a mobile unit was parked at City Hall accepting blood donations from department staff and community members alike.

The Battle of the Badges is part of a counties-wide event, including departments from Cooke, Fannin and Grayson County. From July 1-August 16, people can visit any TRBC mobile blood drive or visit their stationary unit at 3911 Texoma Parkway in Sherman (Mondays-Thursdays from 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m., Fridays from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.).

At the donation site, donors can scan a QR code to cast their vote for Whitesboro Police or Whitesboro Fire. Each donor is also entered into a drawing for a chance to win a Blackstone 22” griddle and $250 gift card from Fischer’s Meat Market in Muenster.

As of Friday’s in-town event, the Whitesboro Police currently have the lead.

According to TRBC, every three seconds, someone needs blood. Donors must be at least 17 years old, in good general health, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and meet all blood donor guidelines.
