The GFWC History Club of Whitesboro hosted the 64th annual Trinity District Spring Convention on April 13, 2024, at the First United Methodist Church.

Patricia Davis, club president and convention chairman, stated there were approximately 50 clubwomen in attendance. Mayor Dave Blaylock welcomed the clubwomen to Whitesboro and gave a brief history of the town and described the wonderful amenities it has to offer.

Davis chose “Bee-lieve in the Magic” as the theme of the convention. She said that the state president’s theme for her administration was “Protecting the Pollinators” and purchasing honeybees through Heifer International. The district president’s theme was to plant butterfly gardens. Club members used black top hats filled with flowers and bees and butterflies as centerpieces. Those were surrounded by white gloves and magic wands.

Throughout the day, History Club was awarded 13 first-place certificates and three second-place certificates for their 2023 projects and programs. They received first place for Membership, Communications and Public Relations, Leadership, Legislation and Public Policy, Outstanding Club Program, Scholarships, Health and Wellness, Dollars for Delegates, Federation, Epsilon Sigma Omicron reading program, Outstanding Americanism, Texas Heritage and Arts and Culture. They received second place for Fundraising, Education and Libraries, and Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Prevention.

Members provided breakfast for all the attendees. Lunch was catered by the Whitesboro ISD Food Service Department. After lunch, several members of the History Club donned black top hats and black jackets. They performed some mediocre magic tricks, like pulling a stuffed bee from a hat, pulling a long scarf out of a pocket and guessing a card from a deck. Then they sang a new song about being in a woman’s club to the tune of “Do You Believe in Magic?”. Then members were treated to a surprise magic show by professional magician Rickster the Trickster.

District officers were installed for the upcoming 2024-2026 administration. Those installed from the History Club were Donna Parkinson as President, Patricia Davis as First Vice President and Carolyn Jo Snow as Second Vice President.
