At 3 p.m. on Memorial Day, May 27, Carol Golden will play “Taps” at the fountain at Trollinger Park in Whitesboro.

A Whitesboro resident and retired music teacher, Golden has offered this service for the past few years.
Unlike Veterans’ Day, in which we honor people who have served in the armed forces, Memorial Day is a day to honor and mourn individuals who have died while serving in the armed forces.

Anyone is welcome to attend this brief performance and pay tribute to the men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice in protecting our country’s freedoms.
In addition to remembering loved ones, Golden will also share the history of “Taps,” the distinctive bugle melody played at U.S. military funerals and memorials.

Bugles Across America is a non-profit organization providing live buglers for Veteran burials. On Memorial Day, the organization encourages buglers all over the country to perform “Taps” at 3:00 p.m. local time. Though not a member of the organization, Golden wants this performance to be an annual event in the community.

“This is a way for me to give back to the public and to honor our service men and women,” Golden said.

Golden will arrive at Trollinger Park around 2:45 p.m. on Monday. She invites anyone interested in honoring our fallen heroes to join her.
