Sam Rayburn wanted one game in its Class 2A region quarterfinal baseball duel with No. 1 Collinsville. The Rebels got their wish, but the Pirates reminded their opponent to be careful for what they wish for.

Logan Jenkins struck out 13 Sam Rayburn batters and surrendered just two hits in 6.1 innings on the mound as Collinsville (34-2) claimed a 6-0 victory Thursday at the Z-plex in Melissa.
The Pirates face the winner of Axtell and Rio Vista in the region semifinal round next week.

After Jenkins struck out the side in the top of the first inning, Collinsville went to work in the bottom half of the frame. Garrett Trevino and Jaxon Jenkins each hit RBI singles to put the Pirates on top, 2-0. Collinsville struck again with a run in the bottom of the second. Logan Jenkins drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0.

The Pirates added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth when Peyton Davidson scored on an error and Colin Barnes drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Trevino drove in the final run with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth.

Trevino (2-3, 2 RBI) led Collinsville at the plate. Barnes (0-1, BB, SAC, RBI), Davidson (1-3), Landon Carpenter (1-3), Jaxon Jenkins (1-2, BB, RBI), Logan Jenkins (0-1, 2 BB, SAC), Cash Morgan (1-2, BB), Rylan Newman (1-3) and Reed Patterson (1-2, BB, HBP) also contributed.

The Pirates met Axtell in a best-of-three region semifinal series Wednesday and Thursday at Weatherford High School. The winner of the series will meet the winner between Tom Bean and Valley Mills. Results were not available as off press time.
