Last Friday, West Grayson Retired School Personnel Association (WGRSPA) presented Collinsville third graders with copies of the book “Because of Winn-Dixie” by Kate Dicamillo. Reading teacher Alesha Hacker personally wrote a note in each student’s book encouraging each one to read the book this summer. Seven senior girls, Addisyn McDonnell, Haidyn Bryson, Devyn Elvington, Shelby Derzapf, McKenna Guidinger, Jaci Barrett and Anais Goedertier, each took a group of the youngsters and began reading the book aloud to spark their interest in the book. Also pictured with the children and their readers are third grade teachers Hacker and Christi Light and retired teacher Laurie Davenport, WGRSPA member, who explained why the group of retired teachers were giving students the books and encouraging them to be lifetime readers.
