Whitesboro Chili Fest: A dog-gone good time...

Whitesboro Chili Fest: A dog-gone good time...
Despite the threat of inclement weather, last Saturday’s Whitesboro Area Chamber of Commerce inaugural Chili Fest was a success. With the exception of some slight sprinkling here and there, the storms held out and the sun even made an appearance. Vendors lined Main Street while a chili cook-off, sanctioned cornhole tournament and various contests, music and give-aways took place in the parking lots behind the businesses on the north side of Main Street. At left, kids from Whitesboro, Collinsville and Tioga compete in a youth chili dog eating contest for a cash prize of $100. Other competitions included an adult chili dog eating contest (eight dogs was the maximum to be eaten) and a jalapeno eating contest. The winner of the chili cook-off was the Whitesboro Police Department. “I’m really proud of my team,” Police Chief Alex Coss said. “But I can’t take any actual credit. They did all of the cooking. I just oversaw the operation and cheered them on.” OneChurch manned a kids’ zone with bounce houses, games and dunking booth. A good time was had by all. The chamber is already looking forward to next year’s event.
