W’boro PARD announces summer pool schedule, events
The Whitesboro pool is a big draw for people of all ages each summer.

The Whitesboro Parks and Recreation Department (PARD) announced plans for the 2024 Community Swimming Pool Programs this week. The pool will open to the public for its 44th annual Splash Day on Saturday, May 25. On that day everyone will be admitted to the pool for free. Hours of operation on Splash Day will be 1-6 p.m.      

The normal hours of operation will be as follows: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, 1–6 p.m.; Wednesday, 2–6 p.m.; Sunday, 1–5 p.m. On Tuesday evenings the pool is open to families from 6–8 p.m. The pool is located at 400 Wilson Street next to the Whitesboro Community Center. The phone number for the pool during the swim season is 903.564.3039.    

Admissions fees are as follows: children ages two and younger—free; ages three and older--$2.00. Season passes are available. An individual pass is $50 for Whitesboro residents and $75 for non-residents. A family pass for a family of four is $100 for Whitesboro residents and $150 for a family that lives outside Whitesboro city limits. Additional family members may be added for $10 per person. (Family members must live in the same household.) Residency may be established by providing a copy of a recent utility bill.    

Swim lessons are available at a cost of $40 per two-week session. Children must be four years old to take group swim lessons. Private swim lessons are available; check with the pool office after May 26 for details. The PARD will begin registering students for group swim lessons on Monday, May 1 at 8 a.m. The schedule for public lessons is as follows:

10:00 - 10:45 a.m.: Level 1, Level 2, Level 5
11:00 - 11:45 a.m.: Pre-school, Level 2, Level 3 
5:30 - 6:15 p.m.: Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, Level 4

SESSION 2   June 17-June 28 
9:00 - 9:45 a.m.: Pre-school, Level 2, Level 4 1
10:00 - 10:45 a.m.: Level 1, Level 3, Level 6 
11:00 - 11:45 a.m.: Pre-school, Level 2, Level 3

SESSION 3    July 1-3 and 8-12 (no class July 4 but includes Friday, July 12)

The pool schedule includes a variety of special activities with something for everyone. Tuesday Family Swim is an opportunity for families only to swim from 6 to 8 p.m. Regular fees apply.
Water Aerobics classes are $3 per person. The Ladies’ Shallow Water Class will meet on Mon/Thurs, 6:30-7:30 p.m.; the Co-Ed Deep Water Class will meet on Mon/Thurs, 7:30-8:30 p.m.; and the Morning Class will meet on Mon/Wed/Fri, 7:45-8:45 a.m. Classes will begin on June 3.

Lap swimming is available for those who wish to swim for exercise from 12:00-12:50 p.m., Monday through Thursday. The cost is $2 and begins on June 3. Mom & Me Swim Time will be held on Thursdays from 12:00-12:50 p.m. This is a time for preschoolers and moms to use the pool. The normal fees will apply.  This program begins on June 6.

Ladies’ Day will be on Wednesdays from 12:00-1:00 p.m., beginning June 5.  This will be a time for ladies only ages 18 and older. Cost is $2. Father’s Day will be special at the Whitesboro Swimming Pool, as dads will be admitted free when accompanied by their child. This will be on Sunday, June 16.    

There will be a Middle School Mixer for students going into grades 6, 7 or 8 only. This special back-to-school pool party will include music, swimming, games, snacks and fun for $2 per person. The Mixer is planned for Friday, August 2 from 6-8 p.m.      

The pool is available for rental on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., and Sundays from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The cost is $150 for residents and $175 for non-residents. 

This fee is for fewer than 65 swimmers; additional fees will apply for more than 65 swimmers. The rental fee includes lifeguards. Visit the PARD office on or after Monday, May 1 at 8 a.m. to make reservations, and a $100 deposit is required. Whitesboro residents should bring a copy of a recent utility bill to obtain the residency rate.      

A Lifeguard Training Course will be sponsored by the PARD. Learn the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to emergencies in and around an aquatic environment. 
CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid are included in the course. Students must attend all classes. All City of Whitesboro lifeguards are Red Cross certified. Completion of course does not guarantee employment with the City of Whitesboro. Students must be 15 years old and pass a swimming pre-test to take the class. Deadline to register is May 3; however, registration will close when the class is full. Class dates are May 23 to 31. A class schedule is available at www.whitesboro.org/pard. There is a pre-test fee of $25, and the total class fee is $175.    

The PARD will conduct a Water Safety Instructors Course for students ages 16 and older. In this American Red Cross course, participants will gain certification as a Water Safety Instructor. Before being accepted into the class, all candidates must pass a swimming pre-test. The pre-test includes a demonstration of laps swimming the front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, sidestroke and butterfly. There is a $25 non-refundable fee to register for the pre-test. Completion of this class does not guarantee employment with the City of Whitesboro. Interested students must preregister for the pretest by Friday, May 3; however, registration will close when the class is full. 

The course schedule is on the department’s website. Participants must attend all class sessions. The course fee is $175 ($150 due after successful completion of the pre-test). No regular diapers are allowed in the pool—only “Little Swimmers.” Private swim lessons are available. Please see pool office for details after May 26 or check the Swimming Pool page of the department’s website for a QR code to sign up. 

Ten minutes each hour of public swim is set aside for a safety break for ages 15 and under. Children under 8 MUST be accompanied by an adult within arms’ reach at all times who will watch and be responsible for the child.
