On Tuesday, April 2, Senator Drew Springer (R – District 30) presented a proclamation to the Whitesboro Fire Department in honor of National Volunteer Week.
Springer said on February 17, 2023, the Texas Senate passed Resolution 431 which gives the state of Texas the opportunity to recognize the many volunteer firefighters across the Lone Star State for their outstanding service. He said last year National Volunteer Week took place on April 16 through April 22, 2023. In honor of that week, Springer honored the Whitesboro volunteer firefighters.
He said many volunteer firefighters serve in our rural and urban communities throughout the state, performing such duties as fire suppression, emergency medical aid, rescue, hazardous material response and training in public education. In addition to offering vital emergency services, volunteer fire departments contribute to their communities by hosting open house events and building relationships with area residents.
“These bright men and women give generously of their time and talents in order to protect the lives and properties of their fellow citizens and they are indeed deserving of this special recognition,” Springer said. “As a fellow volunteer fireman in Muenster for 18 years, the fire service has a special place in my heart. I think sometimes Texas doesn’t realize what greatness we have in our volunteers in our fire service."
These highly trained individuals are members of more than 1,000 fire departments and they provide over 80% of the fire services in the state of Texas.
“Houston and Dallas is what everybody thinks of, but we wouldn’t exist without those that are willing to serve their communities,” Springer said.
The WFD volunteers were presented with this recognition that was approved by the entire Texas Senate and signed by Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, Senator Springer and Senator Pete Flores (R – District 24).
