The Whitesboro Area Chamber of Commerce invited businesspeople, city staff and community members to gather Wednesday afternoon and celebrate the ribbon cutting for the new location of Your Neighbor’s House (YNH) in Whitesboro.
Your Neighbor’s House began as a local food pantry in 2005. Over time, the organization added a thrift store where the community can donate new and gently used clothes, household items and furnishings to be sold to the public.
“Since we first opened here in Whitesboro, the community has blessed us immensely,” YNH Director Connie Lloyd said.
Previously located on Union Street across from the First United Methodist Church, Your Neighbor’s House moved to a new building at the end of last year. They are now located at 109 Chesnut Street. This facility allows for better organization and wider aisles, providing a more positive shopping experience for its patrons.
Your Neighbor’s House aims to be a beacon of hope to the community of west Grayson County. They partner with other organizations like homeless shelters, churches, clubs and area schools to provide assistance for people during critical life stages.
In addition to providing supplies and resources to these organizations, YNH is the go-to organization during natural disasters like fire, flooding and tornadoes. Victims can depend on YNH for clothes, furniture and food staples.
“Life happens,” Lloyd said. “This is the place you need.”
Each month, Your Neighbor’s House food pantry serves more than 250 families in western Grayson County. When families visit, they are given a box of food that includes cheese, eggs, bread, dessert, canned goods, meats and snack bags. Families who qualify for food assistance are welcome to visit the food bank once every 30 days. (Call 903-564-4400 to confirm eligibility.) Food pantry hours are Tuesdays, 9 a.m.-noon; Thursdays, noon-3 p.m.; and Saturdays, 9 a.m.-noon.
The thrift store is manned by volunteers, and store hours are Tuesdays and Saturdays, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and Thursdays, noon-3 p.m. The store currently accepts cash and check.
