After competing at District One Act Play (OAP) on March 8, both Whitesboro and S&S High Schools advanced to the Bi-District OAP competition on March 27.

At the district competition, under the direction of Marylee Carney, Whitesboro students performed “Rabbit Hole” by David Lindsey-Abaire, a play about a young boy struggling to move on after the death of his family.

Under the direction of Channon Gibson, S&S students performed “It’s All in your Head.” The play was written by Gibson, along with Annette Skupkin and tells the story of a boy named Michael who is struggling with trying to handle all the stress in his life.

Three students from S&S received awards at this competition. Lexis Belcher was recognized as All Star Crew, Savannah Ringer was honored with All Star Cast, and Dylan Vickery earned Best Performer.

To prepare for the upcoming Bi-District competition, S&S held performances for the eighth-grade classes. This allowed the high schoolers more practice and helped to encourage the eighth-graders to join theater when they get to high school.

Wednesday’s Bi-District OAP competition was held at the First State Bank Center for Performing Arts on the campus of North Central Texas College in Gainesville. Performances began at 10 a.m. and ran back-to-back. Whitesboro performed first.

In addition to Whitesboro and S&S, other schools that competed were A+ Academy with a performance of “Rise and Shine,” Harmony School of Innovation FW with “15 Reasons Not to Do a Play,” Valley View with “Small Mouth Sounds,” and UME Preparatory Academy with “The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane.” Results of the competition were not available at press time.

S&S Theatre will hold a special viewing of their play on April 5. The performance will take place at 7 p.m. on the stage at North Central Texas College (NCTC). Everyone is invited to attend and support the hard-working students who have created this show.
