Cooke County Arts Council to host scholarship fundraiser

Cooke County Arts Council to host scholarship fundraiser

On April 12, the sounds of music and sights of art will fill the First State Bank Center for Performing Arts at North Central Texas College (NCTC) in Gainesville. “Sights and Sounds,” the annual showcase of the arts by Cooke County Arts Council Members, is fun for all ages. With music, art, food and more, it promises to be an entertaining night while also lending support to future scholars and creative talent within the community.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for seniors and children. They can be purchased at the door or in advance from Kevin and Susan Beall Insurance Agency, 326 E California St, Gainesville. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. – performances begin at 7:30 p.m.

Let your eyes feast upon stunning works of art from talented local artists with the Gainesville Area Visual Arts organization (GAVA). Meet the artists while enjoying light hors d’oeuvres and libations.

The North Texas Chorale, directed by Mr. Clint Kelley, will present A Little Jazz Mass. Two very diverse traditions - the Latin mass and the jazz idiom – are successfully brought together by composer Bob Chilcott. The Butterfield Stage Players will entertain guests with a sneak preview of their summer musical, Legally Blonde. The play will be directed by Drake Jackson, a former Butterfield Stage Players youth theater student who has continued to perform in numerous shows there.

Marvel at the sweet singing of the Dolce Canto Children’s Chorus of Cooke County, directed by Susan Beall. This performance centers on the theme “Sing a Rainbow,” conveying messages of optimism and aspiration fitting for the spring season. Their song selections about the joy of singing and the hope symbolized by rainbows, combined with the chorus members’ enthusiastic and sweet little faces, will surely inspire audiences.

After the intermission the 20-piece Gainesville Swing Orchestra led by Grammy-nominated Dave Alexander will take the stage. The swing band will have you dancing in the aisles with their renditions of swing, jazz and big band classics. Featuring some of the region’s most talented musicians, the band brings together percussion, horn, saxophones and more into an exciting, cohesive showcase of musical talent.

From fiery trumpets to the sultry sounds of the saxophones, to a driving rhythm section, the Gainesville Swing Orchestra has something for every musical taste. The band will delight you with a fun set list featuring their most beloved songs and fan favorites.
