Frontier Village at Loy Lake will be offering several educational opportunities in the coming days.
Saturday, March 9, herbalist Susan Hawkins will present an Indigenous Herbs class from 1-3 p.m. Learn about the area’s native flora and how to incorporate more native plants in your garden to improve the environment and conserve water. Tickets for this class are $10 for the general public and $8 for museum members.
On Wednesday, March 13 from 5-7 p.m., the FV&M Fiber Arts Club will present a free Group Crochet class. Attendees can learn the basics of crochet, share their knowledge and make new friends while learning new skills. All ages and skill levels are welcome. Take advantage of the museum’s free supply library. Bring your own yarn or supplies to donate. The following day from 1-2 p.m., join the museum for Intro to Seed Staring, presented by Elizabeth Nevens. Learn a simple and economical way of starting seeds in a recycled milk jug. Participants will make a mini-greenhouse and plant their first seed in class. Bring a milk jug and receive $1 off the cost of admission. Tickets are $10 for the general public and $8 for museum members. Please RSVP to ensure there are enough supplies.
Next weekend, Frontier Village & Museum comes to life with artisans and re-enactors portraying everyday life as a Grayson County Pioneer at Frontier Days 2024. This family-friendly event is educational and fun, with hands-on crafts and demonstrations everyone will enjoy. On March 15, the event is open to school field trips and homeschool students. Call for pricing and registration, which is required to reserve a time slot. On March 16, the event is open to the public from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Cost is $10 for the general public and $8 for museum members.
