The GFWC History Club of Whitesboro held its second-annual spring social and fashion show at Ranch 82 last Sunday. The event sold more than 100 tickets to raise money for scholarships for graduating high school senior girls.

While attendees enjoyed a beautiful spread of light refreshments, tea and lemonade, History Club President Patricia Davis welcomed attendees with a brief presentation about the history club. Then the main program began, a fashion show featuring local stores and spring trends.

Represented at the event were Whitesboro’s Cosmic Hippie Boutique, Dennards Western Wear, Lovejoys on Main, Tangled Cotton, The Leopard Antler Boutique and Sunny Paige as well as Sadler’s Bunkhouse Boutique. Each store had models displaying their latest fashions. From rompers and sundresses to golf shirts and western wear, it appears the trends for this spring include flutter sleeves, airy fabrics, platform sandals and bubble bracelets.

Models walked the runway on a raised catwalk/stage (a new addition to this year’s event) while emcees Anita Morales (a Whitesboro High School teacher) and Jackson Harper (a high school senior) described the outfits in detail. The 29 models included friends, family and employees of each shop, as well as 11 high school seniors. For each senior model, Morales took the time to present a brief biography highlighting their academic and extracurricular achievements. Each store also had a table set up at the back of the room with various items for sale.

Throughout the afternoon, there were drawings for door prizes which consisted of gift cards to the retail stores represented in the fashion show. At the conclusion of the event, beautiful plants used as table centerpieces were available for sale as another opportunity to raise money for the seniors. The spring social and fashion show is a fun way to learn about local shops, celebrate graduating seniors and raise money for a good cause.

The GFWC History Club of Whitesboro is a non-profit, women’s volunteer service organization. The club is dedicated to working in the community to support the arts, preserve natural resources, advance education, promote healthy lifestyles, encourage civic involvement and work toward world peace and understanding.
