The Whitesboro Parks and Recreation Department (PARD) will host its 16th Annual Shauney P. Lucas Community Art Show Friday, March 8 through Sunday, March 10. The show, (free to enter and to attend) is open for all artists to submit their works for display. Those interested should register at the Parks and Recreation office by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6.
This year’s show features the work of Rob Jordan, a sixth generation native Texan who was born and raised in Grayson County. He is an artist who is known for his focus on wildlife scenes and sports art.
Having grown up enjoying the outdoors as well as having a passion for sports, Jordan draws and paints these scenes in an effort to realistically capture a moment in time using mediums ranging from oil and acrylic paint to charcoal and colored pencils.
Jordan enjoys creating art that features local high school athletes in action. Some of these works have been featured by local news outlets.
Jordan has been married to his wife Steph for 22 years. They have three daughters, Katy, Keelie and Khloe. When he’s not painting, Jordan enjoys watching Rangers baseball and high school football.
The public is invited to meet Jordan and other local artists at the show’s opening Artists’ Reception on Friday, March 8 from 7-8:30 p.m. There will be Viewers’ Choice Awards given at the close of the reception on Friday in various categories. The public is invited to attend the reception and vote on their favorites. Jordan will also be doing a demonstration during the course of the show.
The show will be held at the Jimmie O. Rector Community Center, 400 Wilson Street in Whitesboro. Information about this and other department events can be found at www.whitesboro.org/pard. This event is co-sponsored by the Whitesboro History Club.
