The local chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma (DKG) Society, an international society for key women educators in 26 countries, received a grant from the Foundation of the Texas State Organization (FTSO) to support two Whitesboro High School (WHS) classrooms. The FTSO provides grants to help fund projects that support education.

A recent program discussed the Structured Learning (formerly Life Skills) and Health Science Careers classes at WHS and difficulties involved with providing these students with food preparation lessons. These classes were having to coordinate with the Culinary Arts classes to share equipment and resources.

This caused the DKG members concern, so they wrote a grant application to provide equipment and appliances that could be used in the classrooms without having to coordinate with the Culinary Arts classes.

Through the FTSO, the Alpha State Texas Educational Foundation (ASTEF) provided the DKG with $2,500, the full amount requested.

With that money, the DKG members purchased a 10-foot refrigerator, two rolling carts with counter work surfaces plus storage, small appliances and mixing and meal serving equipment. Students from the Ag Department assisted by assembling the rolling carts.

In addition, chapter members provided gift certificates to teachers Casey Monk and Tisha Muntz to purchase supplies and groceries for class activities. (In the past, the teachers have provided many of these items from their own kitchens.)

The local chapter of DKG consists of Cladene Belcher, Janet Burnett, Glenda Coulson, Wanda Dutton, T.R. Fletcher, Shirley Grantham, Lisa Graves, Karen Kirkpatrick, Carol Pike, Jasara Russell, Nanette Sissney, Mary Nan Story and Jamie Vozenilek. They are grateful to have had a hand in providing help to these quality programs through this Rolling Cart Project.
