The Frontier Village and Museum is looking for local artisans and re-enactors for their upcoming Frontier Days to be held March 15-16. This two-day family friendly event in Denison brings to life a historic frontier-era pioneer village.
Event planners are looking to fill positions like fireplace cooking, barber, leather worker, potter and bread maker, among others. The Frontier Village and Museum is also seeking people to play the role of re-enactors. From 1-4 p.m. on Feb. 3, the village will host a free re-enacting class. Topics will include how to get started, how to research and create a character and how to source a costume.
Direct questions to the Frontier Village and Museum at 903-463-2487 or simply attend the free class. Details about the Frontier Days event will be published soon.
Also on Feb. 3, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., the Frontier Village Cannon Crew will hold an organizational meeting for U.S. Kansas 3rd Field Battery and the U.S.C.T. (United States Colored Troops) 2nd Regiment Kansas Light Artillery, Independent Battery.
This meeting will provide a short history on Black Americans who fought for the Union and for their freedom in the Civil War. It will also allow interested parties to sign up to be on one of two cannon crews.
The meeting will begin in the Frontier Village Museum Community Room and, around noon, will head out to the center of the village. There, people will train on a Model 1841 12-pounder Mountain Howitzer cannon.
Interested parties must be 18 or older. Call 903-463-2487 to register as space is limited.
