Lady Cats on a streak
The Whitesboro Lady Bearcat Basketball team got some help from penalty shots and etched out a 37-36 win over Ponder Tuesday night at home.
Reagan Downs sunk a free throw with seven seconds left on the clock to seal the deal in District 10-3A play.
Olivia Hildebrand led the night with 13 points, six rebounds and three assists
Allison Eldredge offered nine points, four rebounds and three assists.
Melanie Baldwin had five points and 10 rebounds.
The win took Whitesboro to 10-14 on season, 4-2 district and locked them in a third-place tie with Ponder (21-7, 4-2).
The Lady Cats close the first half of district play at Callisburg tonight.
Whitesboro has the hot hand after previously beating Valley View 68-25 on the road Friday, Jan. 4 and Boyd 62-16 on Jan. 2.
Against Boyd, Izzy Gabbert led with 17 points.
Eldredge added 12 points.
Hildebrand pitched in 10 points, four steals, three blocks, three rebounds and three assists.
Claire Ortiz finished with eight points.
Lady Rams among the top in league play
The S&S Lady Rams topped Valley View 75-13 Tuesday night at home.
Brenna Howard led the attack with 29 points.
Maleeya Stanford had 21 points for S&S.
The win took the Lady Rams to 14-9 on the year and 5-1 in district. They are second in district and travel to Ponder tonight.
The win Tuesday came after a 53-33 win over Boyd on Friday, Jan. 4 and a staggering 92-10 win over the Pilot Point Lady Bearcats at home on Jan. 2.
Howard scored 39 points against Pilot Point.
Lady Pirates fall to Muenster
The Lady Pirates lost 47-22 against Muenster on the road Tuesday. They snapped their perfect district streak and the Lady Hornets retained possession of the current first place seed.
The loss took Collinsville to 11-9 on the year and 4-1 in district.
The Lady Pirates will host Lindsay tonight.
On Friday, Collinsville beat Alvord 57-41 after topping Tioga 75-51 Tuesday, Jan. 2.
The Lady Bulldogs picked up a 45-32 district win over Alvord on Friday, Jan. 6.
Bearcats in the driver’s seat
The Whitesboro Bearcats remained undefeated in District 10-3A play with a 56-26 victory over Valley View Jan. 6 on the road.
Brayden Bomar led the attack with 12 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Max Hinsley added 11 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Jack Hinsley offered 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Dax Martin scored 10 points.
Jacob Knight had nine points.
Karter Sluder contributed five rebounds and four assists.
The win took Whitesboro to 14-8 on the year and 3-0 in district.
They hosted Ponder Tuesday night. Results were not available as of press time.
The Cats opened the year with a 49-35 win over Boyd on Jan. 2.
Max Hinsley had 24 points and eight rebounds as the Bearcats.
Knight had with seven points, 11 rebounds and four assists.
Martin offered seven points and four rebounds.
Jack Hinsley logged seven points.
