This year’s annual Lincoln Reagan Event, hosted by the Grayson County Republican Party (GCRP), will honor legendary lawman Bass Reeves (1838-1910).
The event will be held on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2024, at 6 p.m. at the historic Kidd Key Auditorium/Sherman Municipal Ballroom.
Officeholders, candidates and other notable officials will also be on hand.
Dr. Sidney Thompson, acclaimed author of The Bass Reeves Trilogy—“Follow the Angels, Follow the Doves,” “Hell on the Border,” and “The Forsaken and the Dead,” which serve as the basis for Taylor Sheridan’s Paramount+ TV miniseries “Lawmen: Bass Reeves”—will be joined by Ernest Marsh, Actor / Bass Reeves Living History Reenactor, in providing an in-depth look at Bass’s remarkable life.
The focus will be on Bass’s deep connections to Grayson County and the surrounding region, and his unprecedented record of accomplishments during his service as one of the first African American Deputy United States Marshals west of the Mississippi River.
He was also arguably the most innovative and successful lawman of the American Wild West Frontier.
“Bass Reeves’ legacy stands as an example to us all,” Joe Brown, former United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Texas, said.
The Lincoln Reagan event is a fundraiser that helps generate money for the GCRP for everything from scholarships to campaigning.
