AREA ENTRIES SHARE IN RECORD $169,436 LOY LAKE SALE
The 1995 auction at the Loy Lake Exposition and Livestock Show surpassed all previous records by posting a whopping $169,436.95 in proceeds to Grayson County youth.

One hundred ninety-four projects, shown by 4-H, FFA and FHA students at Bells, Pottsboro, Gunter, Whitesboro, S&S, Collinsville, Sherman, Howe, Whitewright, Tom Bean, Van Alstyne, and Denison were taken to the ring for bids during the five-hour event.

Midway through the high-paced activity, week-long announcer Duane Peters of Howe asked the crowd to listen quietly for an extremely important message.

Tears streamed down the face of M. Williams of Bells FFA as she ushered a steer into the arena, Peters meanwhile explaining to the crowd that the student owner had been killed in a recent car accident.

Fellow students in the chapter decided to raise the animal, then hoping the stock would make sale, planned to establish a scholarship fund in his honor.

The crowd graciously provided funds for the stipend, which will be awarded this year to a deserving student who plans to pursue agriculture. The steer was sold to Grayson County Industrial Boosters for $1,462.50, while multitudes of supporters pledged at least $5,800.

POST OFFICE DEDICATION IS SET
Postmaster Nadyne McGehee announced today that Collinsville’s new post office will be dedicated at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

The new facility, located at the corner of Main and Highway 99, is part of the Post Office Department’s lease construction program, the local postmaster explained.

Under this program, investment financing is used to obtain needed facilities which remain under the private ownership, pay local taxes to this community, and are leased to the Federal Government.

At the same time, the need for large outlays of money from the Federal Treasury for construction purposes is eliminated.
