After 25 years of volunteering with and working part-time for the Whitesboro Fire Department, Jeff Patterson has been named Director of Public Safety for the City of Whitesboro.
Serving most recently as Assistant Fire Chief and Emergency Management Coordinator, Patterson’s new role is a salaried, full-time position which he will begin on March 31. He will work at the Whitesboro fire station Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will still be involved with emergency response.
In his new role as Director of Public Safety, Patterson will oversee fire, EMS, dispatch and emergency management while also working closely with Whitesboro Police Chief Kevin Dockery.
“This position was created due to the needs resulting from the growth of our community,” Patterson said. “Working for Whitesboro full-time has always been my dream. I want to be able
to focus on our community and the people I know. It’s much more personal. Now we’ve grown to a point where this position is appropriate. This is fantastic.”
While working with the Whitesboro Fire Department, Patterson previously retired as a Battalion Chief/Paramedic from the Addison (Texas) Fire Department after more than 22 years of service, rising through the ranks as a Firefighter, Engineer, Lieutenant, Captain and Battalion Chief. Most recently, he served as a Battalion Chief/Paramedic with Parker County ESD 1 Fire and Rescue. He has since resigned from that position (his last day will be March 27) to accept this full-time opportunity in Whitesboro.
Patterson holds a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration and Emergency Management and a certificate in Volunteer Management from the University of North Texas and an Associate of Science degree in Paramedicine from Grayson College. He is also a graduate of the Grayson College Police Academy.
Patterson is a lifelong resident of Whitesboro. He is married to Jamie Jo and has four children -- Easton, Jentry, Justin and Drake -- who all attend Whitesboro ISD.
