The City of Whitesboro will host a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, March 24 at 6 p.m. for its new elevated water tower.
The ceremony will take place at 1395 W. Main Street in Whitesboro.
City Administrator Phil Harris has said the site will include City of Whitesboro signage that will list the names of the mayor and city council. The site will also have cameras to document the project’s development so that citizens can log on and see firsthand how the work is progressing.
Built in 1965, the city’s current water tower (which holds 250,000 gallons) is near capacity. An additional water tower has been needed for some time.
In 2021, Whitesboro citizens voted to approve the expenditure of WEDCO/WIDCO sales tax funds for the construction of the project.
In 2023, the City Council increased the project’s priority and pushed then-City Administrator Michael Marter to secure the needed easements to move forward with construction.
In January of this year, the current City Council awarded $7.2 million to begin construction of the new elevated water tower (which will hold one million gallons). It is anticipated that the project will take 18 months to complete.
The community is encouraged to attend the highly-anticipated groundbreaking for this much-needed project.
