Keep Whitesboro Beautiful (KWB) announced newly-elected board officers during their monthly meeting at First United Methodist Church Wesley Hall.
While the board will now consist of seven members instead of nine, one seat will be maintained by a city representative (yet to be determined). Four of those seats will be officer positions.
Current president Michael Ross will maintain his seat for another term. Whitesboro resident Mark Wennstedt will serve as vice-president. The role of secretary and treasurer will be combined into one position, which will be maintained by Julie Arrington (who has been serving as treasurer).
Moving forward, the downtown flowerpot adoption program has been paused. For the past two years, KWB has used money donated by Tangled Cotton to provide potted plants to businesses in downtown Whitesboro on Main Street. In return, business owners are asked to maintain the plants. This project was created as an effort to help beautify the downtown area.
In event plans, KWB will hold its annual Spring Cleanup at Trollinger Park on March 29 from 9-11 a.m. Volunteers are encouraged to join in the effort to tidy up the butterfly garden. Then, on April 21-26, the organization plans to host its annual E-Waste collection. The annual community festival/garage sale is slated for June 7.
KWB is considering a partnership with Whitesboro’s municipal court to enable people who can’t afford to pay their tickets to work them off with volunteer work. This idea is awaiting membership vote for approval.
Each month, KWB recognizes a Yard of the Month, a household whose gardening or landscaping is eye-catching and noteworthy. Area yards will now be considered from March through December only, as January and February weather makes it difficult for folks to maintain a beautiful yard.
The next meeting for KWB is scheduled for March 13 at 6 p.m. at FUMC Wesley Hall. Anyone is welcome to attend. For more information, email [email protected] or visit the group’s Facebook or Instagram pages.
