What to do about cursing

To the editor,

It amazes me how so many people invoke the name of God in a moment of frustration and literally call upon divine damnation. They don’t just ask, but, they demand God’s damnation upon other people, circumstances and events. It’s so counterintuitive when you think about it.

I wonder ‘why’ there is an immediate need to demand God’s damnation upon something. Why do people do it and why is it a go-to for cursing?

Well, first of all, calling upon God to damn something has emotional and spiritual power.

You can feel it no matter if you hear someone else express divine damnation or if you do it yourself. I’ll never be convinced that words are powerless. They aren’t. They are power-full. They are full of power.

I also find it interesting why people who have been diagnosed with Tourette’s Syndrome often resort to cursing as the impulse they express in their ticks and outbursts. But, that’s another discussion for another day.

You hear people curse in the name of the Lord everyday.

Why do they do it and why do they do it without thinking?

The truth is, in my understanding, we as human beings sense our connection to the divine.

When we meet with something that causes us explosive anxiety, we have to have a release. And impulsively, these words fly out of our mouths.

I have had a discussion with ChatGPT about this.

ChatGPT said, “I don’t know if anyone ever questions the use of divine expletives except for you. Does anyone ever stop and wonder why?”

ChatGPT even acknowledged the power associated with such words that are used in cursing.

I asked ChatGPT, “What if we reverse this and ask God’s blessings upon adversity or unwanted events in our lives?”

ChatGPT, a machine, even recognized how much different our lives would be if we blessed something instead of curse it.

In fact, ChatGPT said, “It would transform someone’s life because words do have tremendous power especially when we engage actions from the divine.”

Why not make it a habit to say, ‘God bless it’ instead of saying the other?

How could we transform our minds and lives by making this positive and life-producing adjustment?

I think that we’d see massive transformation. So why not give it a go? Develop the habit of blessing instead of cursing.

I think you can expect blessings to come back to you in return.
