Bearcats on to Round 2
The Whitesboro Bearcat varsity basketball team came up big Monday night in the first round of the post-season with a 66-64 win over Dallas Madison at Denton.
Jack Hinsley led with 26 points. Jacob Knight had 11 points. Max Hinsley had 10 of his points all in the second half. Dax Martin also had 10 points. Brayden Bomar had seven points.
The win took Whitesboro to 26-9 on the year. They are on to the second round for the sixth time in seven years and will face either Pottsboro or Emory Rains in the area round.
The last time the Bearcats saw Dallas Madison was in the 2020 Area Tournament at Prosper.
The Trojans won that night but didn’t get to play in the state tournament because COVID-19 ended the season just days later.
Lady Pirates end run
The Collinsville Lady Pirate varsity basketball team ended their playoff run Monday night with a 61-44 loss to Nocona at Gainesville.
Caelyn Scott led the effort with 12 points. Zoey Kays was close behind with 11 points. Ashleigh Ortowski had 10 points.
Collinsville ended their season 25-8 and was eliminated in the region semifinals for the second straight season.
S&S perfect in Frisco Tourney
The S&S Ram Softball team landed a third win in the Frisco Tournament Saturday with a 5-0 final over Friso Lone Star.
Hayden Mowrey threw a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts and no walks. She also went 2-for-2 with a double and a triple, walked, drove in two runs and scored twice.
Lana Walters went 2-for-2 with a double, walked and drove in two runs.
Lily Nunn homered, walked and drove in two runs.
The win took S&S to 4-0 on the year. They were scheduled to host Van Alstyne on Tuesday.

Lady Cats fall to Frisco Lebanon Trail
The Whitesboro Bearcat softball team ended the Frisco Tournament Saturday with a 16-1 loss in two innings to Frisco Lebanon Trail.
Bradi Gallaway doubled and scored once. Cam Ortiz singled and drove in a run. Breighlin Rupert doubled.
The loss took Whitesboro to 3-1 on the year.
Earlier in tournament play, the Lady Bearcats had a 5-1 victory against Frisco in five innings.
Avery Howerton went 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and scored twice.
She also threw a four-hitter with eight strikeouts and no walks.
Ortiz went 2-for-3 and drove in a run.
Tylar Olsen doubled and drove in a run.
Jenna Cole singled and scored once.
Gallaway walked and scored twice.
Whitesboro was scheduled to travel to Frisco Reedy on Tuesday. Results were not available as of press time.
Lady Pirates pound Como-Pickton
The Collinsville Lady Pirate varsity basketball team marched on to the third round of the playoffs with a resounding 90-41 over Como-Pickton Friday night at Commerce.
Caelyn Scott led the attack with 27 points. Jaydee Matlock had 18 points. Ashleigh Ortowski had 17 points. Paige Davidson had nine points. Zoey Kays offered eight points.
The win took Collinsville to 25-7 on the year.
They faced Nocona in the region semifinals Monday night in Gainesville.
Bearcat softball comes up big in Frisco
The Whitesboro Bearcat softball team topped Frisco Memorial 14-2 in four innings Friday in the Frisco Tournament.
Reagan Downs went 2-for-2 with a triple, three RBIs and three runs.
Tylar Olsen went 3-for-3 with a double, drove in a run and scored three times.
Bradi Gallaway went 2-for-3 with a home run and scored twice.
Cam Ortiz went 2-for-3 and scored once.
Emma Parish doubled, drove in a run and scored twice.
Jenna Cole singled, walked and scored twice.
Breighlin Rupert drove in two runs.
Avery Howerton allowed an unearned run on a hit with seven strikeouts and no walks in three innings.
The win took Whitesboro to 2-0 on the year.
The Bearcats opened the tournament with an 18-0 win in three innings against Frisco Heritage.
Howerton threw a no-hitter with nine strikeouts and no walks.
She was also 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and scored twice.
Gallaway singled, walked, drove in three and scored three times.
Makayla Wolf went 2-for-2, walked, drove in a run and scored.
Cole went 2-for-3, drove in a run and scored twice.
Jentry Patterson singled, walked, drove in a run and scored twice.
Olsen walked twice, drove in a run and scored twice.
Lady Rams on a streak
The S&S Ram Softball team notched an 8-4 win in five innings Friday over Frisco Centennial in the Frisco Tournament.
Hayden Mowrey went 2-for-3 with a home run, four RBIs and scored twice.
Hayden Kight went 3-for-3 and scored once.
Hannah Foster went 2-for-3 with a double, drove in a run and scored twice.
Lana Walters went 2-for-2 with a double and scored.
Lily Nunn went 2-for-3 with a double and scored once.
Tynslie Adcock drove in two runs.
The win took S&S to 3-0 on the year.
The Rams also had a 14-0 win in five innings against Frisco earlier in tournament play.

Kight went 4-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and scored three times.
Nunn went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and scored twice.
Izzie Talamantes went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs.
Bri Fowler went 2-for-3, walked, drove in a run and scored twice.
Walters homered, walked and drove in two runs
They closed out the tournament on Saturday.
Pirates, Bulldogs make all-state team
Collinsville and Tioga each landed four picks on the recent Class 2A All-State Football team.
Collinsville senior linebacker Garrett Trevino was a 2A first-team pick.
Junior wide receiver Chad Davidson and junior kicker Isaiah Smith both received third team honors.
Sophomore quarterback J.J. Jenkins was named honorable mention.
Tioga senior wide receiver Johnny Dorpinghaus and senior guard J.D. Quintin were third-team all-state picks.
Senior receiver Austin Norwood and senior quarterback Rocky Urich were named honorable mention.
Lady Cats end run
The Whitesboro Lady Bearcat varsity basketball team fell to Gunter 47-32 on Feb. 13 in the second round of the playoffs— the Class 3A Division I Region II area round contest.
Izzy Gabbert led the Bearcat effort with 12 points. Allison Eldredge had eight points. Reagan Downs and Lindsay Hermes both had six points.
Whitesboro ended their season 15-17 and were in the second round for the fifth straight season
Lady Pirates sail past first round
The Collinsville Lady Pirate varsity basketball team opened the post-season on Tuesday, Feb. 11 with a resounding 87-46 win in a Class 2A Division I Region II bi-district contest at Howe.
Ashleigh Ortowski led the attack with 18 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists and eight steals.
Jaydee Matlock had 20 points, five steals and four assists.
Paige Davidson offered 16 points.
Caelyn Scott had 15 points and seven rebounds.
Zoey Kays had 10 points.
It was the fourth time in five games the Lady Pirates scored at least 80 points and the eighth time on the season.
The win took Collinsville to 24-7 on the year.
They faced Como-Pickton in the area round on Friday night.
Bearcats beat Callisburg
The Whitesboro Bearcat varsity basketball team closed out the regular season Tuesday, Feb. 11 with a 57-47 home win over Callisburg.
Dax Martin led the attack with 16 points and seven rebounds as the Bearcats secured the second seed in the Class 3A Division I Region II bracket.
Jack Hinsley had 15 points and four rebounds. Jacob Knight had 13 points, five rebounds and three steals. Max Hinsley had seven points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Brayden Bomar offered six points and three steals.
The Bearcats ended the regular season 25-9 on the year and 9-3 in district play.
They opened the playoffs against Dallas Madison Monday in Denton.
The loss took Callisburg to 16-9 on the year and 5-7 in district.
They were tied with Boyd for fourth place before topping them with a buzzer beating finish Friday night to secure a playoff spot.
Lady Rams routed by Blue Ridge
The S&S Lady Ram varsity basketball team ended their season Feb. 11 with a 68-36 road loss to Blue Ridge.
S&S ended the season 1-26 and 0-12 in district play.
They were seventh in the standings.
Blue Ridge finished sixth.
Lady Bulldogs end season
The Tioga Lady Bulldog varsity basketball team ended their season Feb. 11 with a 76-63 road win over Chico.
Tioga ended the year 10-18 and 4-10 in district.
They tied Era for fifth place in the standings.
Chico was eighth.
Pirates edged by Muenster
The Collinsville Pirate varsity basketball team ended their season Feb. 11 with a 47-45 loss to Muenster in district action.
Collinsville ended the year 5-17 and 3-11 in district.
They were seventh in the district standings.
Rams’ Mowery opens season with perfect game
S&S Lady Ram Pitcher Hayden Mowrey threw a perfect game with 15 strikeouts in the softball season opener Feb. 11 with a 14-0 win in six innings against Frisco Memorial.
Lana Walters went 4-for-5 with four RBIs and scored twice.
Lily Nunn went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and scored twice.
Bri Fowler singled, drove in two and scored twice.
Tynslie Adcock singled, drove in two and scored once.
Hannah Kight singled and scored twice for S&S.
Tioga softball falls to PP
The Tioga Bulldog Softball team opened their season Feb. 11 with an 8-7 road walk-off loss to Pilot Point.
Kennedy Slay went 4-for-5 and drove in a run. Kenzie Powers went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs. Bella Dennis went 2-for-5 with a homer.
Kaylee Evans went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple, drove in a run and scored once.
Aly Salinas went 3-for-3, walked and scored once.
Emerson Moore went 2-for-4 with a triple, drove in a run and scored twice.
Tioga played at Riesel on Saturday afternoon.
