The Whitesboro Parks and Recreation Department (PARD) is inviting all local artists to participate in its 17th annual Shauney P. Lucas Community Art Show.
Whitesboro’s art show, to be held March 7-9, 2025 at the Jimmie O. Rector Community Center, will be open to all artists to submit their works for display. Those interested should register by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5. There is no fee to participate.
Categories for the various works include drawing, painting, multimedia/3D and photography. The maximum size of entries is 30” x 40”, or 25 pounds for 3D entries.
There is no limit of entries per person; if more than three entries per category are submitted, display will be subject to space availability. All works should be framed or gallery wrapped and ready-to-hang.
Entries may be dropped off at the Community Center during the following times: Monday, March 3, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.; Tuesday, March 4, from 8 a.m.-7:30 p.m.; or Wednesday, March 5, between 8 a.m. and noon.
No nude entries will be accepted, nor politically-themed, anti-religious works or anything that could be deemed as offensive. Organizers have the right to refuse the display of any work they consider to be offensive.
Where possible, work will be displayed according to the following age categories: children 5-12 years, teens 13-19 years and adults 20 and older.
There will be Viewers’ Choice Awards given at the close of the Artist Reception on Friday in each of the above-mentioned categories. The public is invited to attend the reception and vote on their favorites.
The Whitesboro History Club will co-host a reception for the public to meet local artists on Friday, March 7 from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Community Center. Additional showing times will be Saturday, March 8 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday, March 9 from noon-5 p.m. The public is invited to attend, and there will be no charge.
Those interested may register by calling the PARD at 903-564-5964. Information and a registration form are available online at the PARD’s website at www.whitesboro.org/pard.
This event is sponsored by the Whitesboro Parks and Recreation Department and co-sponsored by the Whitesboro History Club.
Shauney Lucas, a PARD employee and local photographical artist, was tragically killed in an automobile accident in October, 2010 at the age of 18. The local art show was named in her memory in 2011.
