PETITION CIRCULATES TO PUT CROSSING ARMS ON DEADLY RR INTERSECTION
Dec. 27, 2004 saw the death of 81 year-old Amos Penn. 

Penn, a longtime Collinsville resident and former City Marshal there, was killed when he apparently tried to cross in front of a southbound Union Pacific train… The accident took place on 
Lynch Crossing north of Collinsville…

According to the best memory of locals, it is the second such death in the history of the crossing and Collinsville resident Rick Bowling wants to make sure it’s the last. 

To that end, Bowling has started circulating a petition in order to fuel his drive for the installation of warning lights and crossing arms.

S&S CISD BOARD TO ALLOW LONG HAIRED MALE STUDENTS 
S&S CISD Board of Trustees decided to allow male students to wear long hair at Monday night’s regular board meeting. 

Cynthia Vrla and her husband addressed the board in regards to their opposition to the student code of conduct in regard to the length of boy’s hair. 

The couple felt that the length of hair did not interfere with the educational process and asked for an amendment to the school policy governing such. 

The board approved the change as they voted 4-3 with members Julia Cummins, Mark Lancaster and Connie Deckard opposing the amendment.

Jeremy Bridges, a senior at Whitesboro High School, began making both beaded and rock jewelry as an effective use of time during recuperation from hip surgery. 
Now, his unique necklaces, watches, bracelets and rings sell nearly as quickly as he can produce them.

W’BORO BASKETBALL RESULTS

Whitesboro Lady ‘Cats, 54 – Frisco, 16

Kara Alexander led scoring with 19 points during a Jan. 9 victory against Frisco. 

Lisa Winborne supplied 11 points in the 54-16 win, while Kerri Meador added six; Amy Bowley, five points; Macey Griner and Karri Wright, four points; and Leslie Jackson, three points.

FIRED EMT FILES ASSAULT CASE AGAINST COUNCILMAN
A Whitesboro City Councilman has appealed for a hearing from a higher court after a “simple assault” charge was filed against him last week by an emergency medical technician who has been fired from the Whitesboro Emergency Medical Services (WEMS)… 

(The former employee) alleges that a councilman grabbed and pushed him out the door of City Administrator/Secretary Faye Lynn Anderson’s office following a city council meeting on Jan. 3.

GROUP’S EFFORTS NET OVER $7,000 TOWARD E.M.S.

The women have been instrumental in fund-raising events to benefit WEMS, including the purchase of this “Lifepak 5” equipment.

Rodney Dickson, a senior student of Whitesboro High School, is this week’s “Student of the Week.”

The 18-year-old is the son of Bobby and Bev Dickson of Red River Drive, Whitesboro. 

Rodney has one brother Jeff Dickson, 15, who is a sophomore…

Rodney has played football for four years and received “All District” during his junior and senior years.

SHERWOOD SHORES SEEKING ANSWER TO ROAD PROBLEM 
Members of the Sherwood Shores Association were searching for their next step Sunday in trying to get road improvements for three of their main roads through the 2,860-lot lake development. 

Efforts to try to get assistance from the Grayson County Commissioners Court have been unsuccessful. 

An association committee, which has had three meetings with Les Tribble, county judge, said that they have been able to accomplish very little.

CHARLES MCMILLION COMPLETES MARINE TRAINING COURSE
Marine Private Charles E. McMillian, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marcus L. McMillion of Route 2, Whitesboro has completed recruit training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, Calif.
