Local students earn THSCA Academic All-State honors
Several local student athletes garnered Academic All-State honors for their 2024 fall sport seasons, as designated by the Texas High School Coaches Association.

Cross country honorees included: 
S&S’ Hunter Bigham was named Honorable Mention. Whitesboro’s Rylie Thomas was on the second team and Izzy Gabbert was honorable mention. S&S’ Lily Nunn was named Second Team and Karlie Baggs was Honorable Mention. Tioga’s Kaitlyn Garrison and Kaylee Evans were Honorable Mention.

Football honorees included: 
Tioga’s Austin Norwood was on the Second Team while Julian Hernandez, Johnny Dorpinghaus, J.D. Quintin and Landon Bingham were Honorable Mention. Whitesboro’s Colby Lamb and Taytum Shaw were on the Second Team and Zakk Sanderson was Honorable Mention. S&S’ Zane Dahler was on the Second Team.

Pirates take All-District honors
Several Collinsville Pirates were recently named to All-District 8-2A (II) football team, as selected by the district coaches.

The Defensive Player of the Year award went to senior Garrett Trevino. Classmate Nick Cox was named Lineman of the Year. Newcomer of the Year was freshman Chase Sheppard.

First Team honors went to: 
Chad Davidson, wide receiver; Cooper McMillan, offensive lineman; Russell Carney, defensive linemen; Chad Davidson, cornerback; Cayson Schafer, safety.

Second Team honors went to: 
Quarterback J.J. Jenkins; tight end Cash Morgan; wide receiver Jaxon Spivey; inside linebackers Nick Cox; utility Landry Spivey. Brandon Cantu received Honorable Mention. George Light was named Academic All-District

Bearcats beat Boyd
The Whitesboro Bearcat varsity basketball team topped Boyd 69-48 Friday night on the road. 

Jack Hinsley led the Whitesboro attack with 24 points, 10 rebounds and three steals. Max Hinsley had 15 points, six assists and five rebounds. Jacob Knight had 12 points, 12 assists, six rebounds and five steals. Brayden Bomar had 10 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals. The win took Whitesboro to 17-7 on the year and 2-1 in district play.

The Bearcats traveled to Leonard on Tuesday. Results were not available as of press time. They return home to host Valley View on Friday.

Tioga tops C’ville
The Tioga Bulldog varsity basketball team beat Collinsville 46-36 Friday night at home in district play. 

In doing so, the Bulldogs held an opponent under 45 points for the 11th time in 16 games. 

Jake David led the Bulldog attack with 15 points. Austin Norwood had 10 points. Johnny Dorpinghaus had nine points. The win took Tioga to 7-9 on the year and 1-1 in district play.
They traveled to Lindsay on Tuesday. Results were not available as of press time.

Chad Davidson led Pirate scoring with 20 points. Peyton Davidson and Briar Whisenant each had five points. The win took Collinsville to 2-9 on the year and 0-3 in district play.

Rams routed by Tigers
The S&S Ram varsity basketball team lost to Gunter 66-33 Friday night at home. 

Brenden Hammer and Joe Orr each scored nine points for the Rams. Brightin McNabb had eight points. Adam Mutz grabbed eight rebounds.

The loss took S&S to 1-17 on the year and 0-3 in district play. They traveled to Howe on Tuesday. Results were not available as of press time.

Lady Cats edged by Boyd
The Whitesboro Lady Bearcat varsity basketball team lost a heartbreaker Friday night on the road with a 57-56 final against Boyd. 

The district loss took Whitesboro to 9-14 on the year and 2-3 in district play. Whitesboro had a bye Tuesday night and host Valley View tonight.

Lady Pirates tear up Tioga
The Collinsville Lady Pirate varsity basketball team beat Tioga 89-44 Friday night on the road in district play. 

Ashleigh Ortowski led the Pirate attack with 24 points. Reese Patterson had 19 points. Caelyn Scott had 17 points. Jaydee Matlock had 14 points. Paige Davidson had 12 points.

The win took Collinsville to 14-6 on the year and 3-2 in district play. They hosted Alvord on Tuesday night. Results were not available as of press time.

Addison Snuggs led Tioga scoring with 14 points. Ella Norwood had 10 points. Kaylee Evans offered eight points. 

The loss took Tioga to 5-11 on the year and 1-4 in district play. They traveled to Lindsay on Tuesday. Results were not available as of press time.

Lady Rams down to Gunter
The S&S Lady Ram Basketball team lost to Gunter 79-22 Friday night at home in district play. 

Sela Winborne led the S&S effort with five three-pointers and finished with a total 15 points on the night. 

The loss took S&S to 4-17 on the year and 0-5 in district play. They traveled to Howe on Tuesday. Results were not available as of press time.

Bearcats beat Pilot Point 
The Whitesboro Bearcat varsity basketball team bounced back from a district opening loss to top Pilot Point 49-30 Dec. 31 at home in district play. 

Jack Hinsley led the Whitesboro attack with 20 points. Max Hinsley had 14 points. Dax Martin offered seven points for Whitesboro.

The win took Whitesboro 16-7 on the year and 1-1 in district. They played at Boyd on Friday.

Lady Cats top Pilot Point 
The Whitesboro Lady Bearcat varsity basketball team held Pilot Point to just four points in the middle two quarters at home on Dec. 31 and came away with a 44-19 win in district play.

Reagan Downs led the Whitesboro attack with 13 points. Lindsay Hermes and Jentry Patterson each scored six points. Lauren Muntz and Claire Ortiz both had five points.

The win took Whitesboro to 9-13 on the year and 2-2 in district play. The Lady Cats traveled to Boyd on Friday.

Rams give up triple digits to Pottsboro 
The S&S Ram varsity basketball team fell to Pottsboro 101-35 on Dec. 31 at home in district play. 

Joe Orr led the Ram effort with 12 points. Brenden Hammer had eight points and four rebounds. Brightin McNabb had seven points.

The loss took S&S to 1-16 on the year and 0-2 in district play. They hosted Gunter on Friday.

Pirates lose to Slidell
The Collinsville Pirate varsity basketball team fell to 77-45 Dec. 31 at home in district play.  

The loss took Collinsville to 2-8 on the year and 0-2 in district. They traveled to Tioga on Friday.

Bulldogs lose to Era
The Tioga Bulldog varsity basketball team lost 39-33 to Era Dec. 31 at home in district play. The loss took Tioga to 6-9 on the year and 0-1 in district. They hosted Collinsville on Friday.

Lady Rams lose to Pottsboro
The S&S Lady Ram varsity basketball team lost to Pottsboro 60-21 on Dec. 31 at home in district play. 

Rylee Garrison led the Lady Ram effort with eight points. Sela Winborne had four points.

The loss took S&S to 4-16 on the year and 0-4 in district. They hosted Gunter on Friday.
