POSTAGE RATE INCREASE EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY
Chains of delightful Christmas greetings stretched across walls and bright red ribbon will likely be shorter next year. The cost of sending glitter sprinkled illustrations of winter scenery and stocking-capped reindeer hit 32 cents on Tuesday, the ninth such increase since 1971.

The hike, however, will be the first during the past four year.

The jump in postal rates recently approved by the Postal Rate Commission means Publishers Clearing House may already be a loser. The cost of that first-class stamp to mail back your winning sweepstakes entry would go up about 10% from 29 to 32 cents.
